Sansui 8080 AM/FM Tuner Board

Hi All, I'm beginning a restoration of a Sansui 8080 (non-DB) and am concerned if I replace all the transistors/capacitors/diodes on the AM/FM board I'll then need to perform a calibration or alignment. Is this accurate?

Probably. But, I have recapped tuner sections and found an improvement afterwards.

I can’t say I have replaced working transistors in a tuner.

Replacing all capacitors and components in a tuner is a recipe for disaster. 1, most components in a tuner don't age to the point where they need replacement; 2, some of the components are specialized and not easily available (ie N750 ceramic capacitors); 3, in the front end just moving components will necessitate a re-alignment; 4, it's a lot of work for NO gain and a lot of potential downside.

Capacitors are NOT the root of all audio evil. If it's working fine leave it be. At the most, replace the electrolytics and that's it, but be careful you don't disturb any other components in the front end area. Otherwise troubleshoot and replace the faulty component(s) only. No need to go scorched earth.
