hi guy i got a sansui 8080db with a problem when you turn it up just a little bit it starts to distort im wondering where to start to look for the problem :scratch2:
What type of distortion are you hearing? Is it crackling distortion when you turn up the volume or just scratchy.
It would be helpful if you can give a little bit more info on your 8080DB, the program source, what speaker impedance it is connected to, etc.
A friend of mine was complaining a few months back about his G-6000, turns out he connected the tuner to the phono input. The sound was really distorted no matter what the volume setting was since he was overloading the phono stage.
Try cleaning the pots first, the low volume level setting area wears out much quicker and the wiper contacts can become intermittent.
If the pots are OK, one possibility is that you are hearing high crossover distortion. This phenomenon is more pronounced at low volume setting. The bias section needs to be looked at for this case. The crossover distortion level is constant and at high music levels it can me masked.
