Sansui Au-a907dr vs Au-d907x

And this is a fun thread. Nice to see some opinions on the 907F Extra too.

In my case here the F Extra has a lower asking price and I feel confident about the 90day warranty, so I'm leaning towards it.

As for the alpha 907DR, I know I'll be pretty bummed if I have to take it to get it fixed right after I get it.. The same goes for the 907X, also they are saying it's a restored unit.

Right now I'm going from 0 amp and a very sad pair of beautiful speakers I can't play anything through (haha) so I'm feeling the temptation to go for the safest route possible and consider upgrading as time goes on if I feel like I'm missing anything (although I won't have any A/B gear).

My Thorens TD 147 is currently in the mail on the way to me from California, so once that comes I'll have to go through it and see if it needs anything as well as it hasn't been used for about 2 years (plus a long trip on its way to me).

Obviously I'm more than tempted by the 907X, and the DR if it's working properly.. I asked about the phono stage as I intended to listen to records.

But the 907F extra restored seems like a good deal too. If the 907F extra is just as good, then I'll consider it.

A 90 day warranty looks reassuring. I'd buy it. You can always keep your eyes open for anything else in the future

As petesui said earlier, you are in the land of Sansui!

I own and have owned quite of few of the later Sansui's (and earlier). My main rack currently houses an AU-D11ii and an AU-a907 Limited, representing X-Balanced among some other Sansui greats form their respective periods.

I think your logic of preferring a restored unit with warranty is sound. Also, if you pick up that AU-D907F Extra you could always sell it and try out something newer from the X Balanced family down the road. There is, in my experience, a lot of value in following Sansui Sound chronologically - without historical reference I don't think you will truly understand what you are hearing. Also, I (and I am sure others) would love to read about your experience and impressions of that AU-D907F Extra. That is a special and rare machine, and to find one restored is even more unheard of. You do have the good fortune of living in the Motherland of Sansui Sound. You have direct access to a lifetime of the Sansui greats. Take your time. Enjoy (and share) the experience! And be sure to post many gorgeous photos of your Sansui and system.

I have the AU-a907 alpha. I also have an AU-a607 MR alpha. The 607 is good, but not even close to the 907 alpha. Rich, bold and with precise detail.
My original plan was to find an MR and NRA 907, but the AU-a907 alpha is so good that I lost motivation to keep hunting. I like it better than my Accuphase P300v / C-200v separates. I have owned (and still do) most of the notable Sansui’s. Still hunting the AU-111.

I just finished up the 1000A which is quite a project to do it properly. Its stunningly good and if the AU-111 is everything that folks say, I need to keep looking. It is worth hearing the differences as you move through the various iterations of the Sansui designs. I got to the alphas after restoring an AU-919, which in my opinion is also a must have for any collector.

I have all the definition series which are great, but haven’t listened to them in a while. Problem is I also have a Luxman collection. But can’t seem to move past the Sansui’s…1756776594720.jpeg

So just look on the schematic and check whether you find "separate grounds", as stated in the above sentence.
Then you'll have the conclusion.

Well how would you word it then?

Each bank of caps in the power supply has it's own ground, rather than being shared by both channels. As it is on the other amp.

I am certainly not. I'm here to learn, share my enthuisiasm & communicate with others about the fascinating history of Sansui. I hope my comparison post above was useful: I think it was mostly accurate?

If it wasn't: just correct me, instead of stirring up needless drama

Stuff like this interests me: the evolution of the Alpha Sansui era which was previously murky & mysterious, has only recently had the curtain drawn aside. In large part due to people like fojica posting about them.

It seems as though the tone has shifted a bit, but for what it's worth I just purchased the au-d907F Extra, restored unit with 90 day warranty from the seller/technician.

I'll be waiting for shipment notification over the next couple of days.

I also got word that my Thorens should be showing up in the mail before the weekend :rockon:

I appreciate everyone's advice and I'm looking forward to sharing lots of pics when it gets here and impressions after I get everything hooked up.
