Sansui G-22000 Ebay

Yikes... "two long days" of work, wow. I hope nobody thinks that's even scratching the surface for looking at one of these receivers, much less cosmetically restoring it even halfway. I'd pay extra to have it as-is and original, dirt and all, but I'd deduct for what this had done to it.

Then it will be packed with "strafoam, bubble wrap, newspaper, cardboard, and pretty much everything else I have." :yikes:

Not the kind of things you want to hear from the seller on a $,1600 receiver.

I sent the seller a link on how to properly pack and ship it. I didn't notice that before you pointed it out. I'd hate to see another one damaged from some idiot trying to pack it with newspaper.

What the...

First he says "The unit has had limited testing, I am not a technician by any means." Then he says "I have taken the unit apart (see pictures) to clean by hand (brushes, swabs, alcohol, soap/water) every component I could get to. I took apart the rear amp section (see pictures), front face, and pre-amplifier to give it a good cleaning."

I don't get a very good feeling with someone declaring they're not a technician by any means to have disassembled and cleaned the interior with something like "soap/water". They are also going to ship this in two separate boxes. That means there will be internal parts of the receiver being pressed up against packing material... that doesn't sound very good either.

I think this fellow ought to try his luck with a local sale... hate to see something like this end up ruined by faulty shipping preparations.

He's flippin it. It was sold for $1200.Can last week. It's now listed locally for $1800.Can
The orig seller also has some massive B&W 808 speakers for sale

I'm not affiliated, I just watch certain ad's and pay attention.

If you watch his youtube videos he has a couple of components to include a tube amp in the background and some unidentified speakers. Owning that stuff he's gotta have some clue.
Maybe he knows that there's something wrong with it and just saying that he doesn't know anything to pass off any liability.

WHOA! Hold on!

Firstly, I was not "flipping". The ad for $1800 was not mine. :nono:

Yes, this Sansui came from an owner in Oshawa, but I bought it from the gentleman listing it on Kijiji for $1800. No, I did not pay $1800 for it.

Once I got the unit home I had to make a hard decision, what to keep. I own a AU-9500, a G9000, a G8000, a TU717, amoungst others. I had made an decision to keep my G9000 as it is impeccable in shape and I already have put it through reconditioning. I have owned more vintage pieces than I care to list and I understand the hard work and money that needs to be put into it for restoration. This is why I stated it functions fine, "I am not a technician" and that I rated it 7-7.5. OF COURSE IT NEEDS TO BE CONSIDERED FOR RESTORATION!! I mention that its over 30 years old and should go in for a check up! Sorry guys, there is nothing wrong with admitting that your going to keep something else and sell what you just bought! Don't tell me you have never done that! I have, many times.

As for cleaning the unit, no--I did not wash in in soap and water!! Perhaps light soapy water on a tooth brush to clean face plates and knob! BUT not a bath in the tub! I understand electronics, however not a technician in stereo's, I am in HVAC. This means I understand circuitry and electronics to some degree. Before you start slamming someone, give them the benefit of the doubt.

I have sold many things on ebay and NEVER had a SINGLE complaint. I have also traded, bought, and sold in local areas and NEVER had a bad deal except for the ones I have been burnt on. I have even taken back a turntable a local buyer obviously abused because my reputation is worth more than $100 bucks.

So, why has it been removed? I have--in the last 3 days playing it started to really appreciate the sound. Something I was not originally sure that I did. I found it similar, yet different than my G9000, but not sure (originally) if I thought it was $x hundred dollars different. Since then I have decided it is. So, I decided it will stay in my collection. It will go for a complete restoration, cabinet, circuitry, cosmetics, and that will cost in the excess of $600. I never implied a restoration was easy or cheap.

As for packing, ever hear of Humour>>>>?? "just about everything I can find"!

Here's a pic of one of my packing jobs. It is impeccable. In fact, all my equipment is impeccable once I have it restored by one of the best audio technicians serving the Hamilton area.

For the gentleman that gave the advice on packing--It was good advice. I learnt a couple new ways to pack. I admit, last time I sent a Hitachi SR2004 across the USA I was worried.

So, lets all have fun--be friends, and try to give each other the benefit of good intentions.

All the best.

I will post the G-22000 picks once it is restored for your pleasure.

PS, I am not an idiot.

When I pack I double box, use strafoam chips across the bottom and to fill the gaps, 3" strafoam blocks for all edges, bubble wrap around the piece, an outer plastic wrap over bubble wrap incase of moisture, flat 1" strafoam board for top, newspaper as a good filler (but that's about all), and other material as necessary. It is basically bomb proof when I am done.

I can send it to you to check it out and try it for a month or two at no charge!:D

this is prior to the strafoam filler, 1" strafoam top, and otter carboard box...

Hey, calm down. No hard feelings. I didn't mean to offend anyone. What I was referring to were the people that throw a 70 lb. component in a box, stuff some bubble wrap and newspaper around it, and then ask why it got damaged in shipping. I was the one that sent you the message on Ebay about the proper packaging. I was just trying to be nice and help you and any potential buyer out.. you know?

I'm glad that you pack it well. I could care less if you were flipping it or not. Why? because what people don't understand that it's not what you paid for it, it's what it is worth. I apologize for the idiot thing.
More often than not when someone's selling something on Ebay they don't know how to pack it. You are obviously the exception.

I actually appreciated the link. Seriously.

You can't blame though someone to take offense when you see your item broadcasted across karma and "everyone and their uncle" makes some sort of assumption!

Anyhow, I love Sansui gear. I love good gear in nice shape periord! Part of the thrill for me is finding rare and obscure stuff. I usually live with it for 6 months to perhaps 4 years at the most. Then I sell it and move on. I agree, alot of ding-dongs destroying never to be built again stuff through shipping. I have seen all kinds of junk. Actually seen a pic of a G-Series unit just wrapped in bubble wrap and then shipped--no box!

I am glad that I decided to keep the 22000. It is, incase you have not seen one in person, stupid big. I mean--it looks big in picture, but in real life--oh my gosh!

I will say--there is a very dynamic sound to this amplifier--it is effortless. However, I still can't help but to say (don't hit me) I still think my 9500 rules.

It's even better than my Mac.

What is it with the 9500's anyhow...

I guess there is no way I would get rid of either one of the two that i have as well. I see you have the TU-9500, I only have one of those :D

great stuff no doubt

I completely understand why you would take offense. I'd react the same way you did, probably worse.
I've got a 22000, It's on right now actually. Mine however needs restoration, I know it will sound a lot better when it gets restored here next month.

Yes. It's wierd, but true. I never originally liked the look of the 9500 (opps!), obviously till I had time to let it grow on me; However, I heard good things about them so I bought a pair.

Here's my conclusion, everything said about them is true! It sounds more like a piece of tube gear (I have had a few of those!) and it is sooooo sweet sounding. Kinda like honey for the ears. I would say the tuner out preforms the TU717--it sounds less mechanical. The amplifier has very natural and robust bass and the midrange tones are to die for. The sound of horns is just so pleasing on my ears. I never thought it would take 2st place on my rack of stuff, but it has.

A keeper for sure!

(and yes, I cleaned the one in the picture too! :)

i use one to rock the bottom end with a el84 moto for the horns and tweets. this get-up absolutely kicks butt. after i get a few projects knocked out, i am going to refurb one of mine then most likely the other

It's nice to see people helping people when it comes to packing big receivers properly. It looks like 1JGP1 has a good technique, but many people are totally clueless. I bought an SX-1980 from ebay about 10 years ago and it was "double boxed"-- the original box (but no inner styrofoam, etc.) inside an old refrigerator box surrounded by, among other things, an old blanket! Was it damaged in shipping? Oh yeah...

It is hard to read tone in listings (or posts) and most of us are so scarred by incredibly poor packing and the resultant damage to valued equipment that it's very hard to read something like that listing and see the humor, instead of just cringing reflexively. Glad to hear the real story.
