so, met up with @Rmac587 and @2270 in play and man did we come across some stuff.

I will share with you what I picked up and they can chime in if they want too... also met John while I was there, another AK’r but can’t remember his handle.

So.... on to my loot.

Teac A-3340S looks brand new, still in box, maybe never plugged in!!! $300

Also picked a few other odds and ends.... there was a ton of other stuff. Really fun day!!

Rob May have a pic of all of us before the sale. Maybe he can post it here. Tom picked up a really nice Fisher... man, good day.

It I am stupid stoked about the Teac. I know I need to lube it all up and maybe, maybe replace the belts?? Anyone know what I should do before I turn this bad boy on??

Ok, so the Teac is not brand new... but stupid close to it. I do t know maybe though... hard to tell.

Yes, the first thing you should do is take a deep breath, calm down.

Now, explain the what, where, etc.. Where did you meet up with others? What kind of place, estate sale, flea market, ....?

hahaha... ok, gotcha. I what is in Orange County, CA on Chapman ave. CL listed a Vintage Audio sell off... seemed like an estate sale or someones collection sell off. Just loads of stuff... Tubes in boxes and pulls from consoles, Dynaco st-70, Heathkits, Sherwood tube amps, Fisher... Damn you name in. Most of the stuff was kinda junk but some were major scores... I know John got a nice Sherwood tube integrated. Knight tubes, and just tons of maggy push, pulls... boxes of tubes and transformers... some were new... it was nuts. People everywhere. The two guys I went with each got tube amps and maybe two... I do not know enough about tubes so I stuck to what I knew. Prices had to have been good because as they were pulling they were being bought. The junk was left behind... When we left it was just a picking fest though all the tubes and transformers and odds and ends... 506 E Chapman in Orange,CA

It was nuts.
 
The Hafler I picked up is blows the main fuse... so I will have to go through it... But I know I will find the culprit. Should be easy fix.

@2270 in play I am going to need that variac you got form that sale for $10 bucks!! man, that was a score too...

Oh, I also picked up a Harman Kardon tuner... $20. Get pick of it later. Also picked up some nice metal speaker stands. Nice quality ones. $20. It was a good time.

That is what I was thinking. I was wanting the story so we can live the dream the OP is experiencing.

That excitement is still coursing through your veins with the spellings, discussion disconnects and stuff. But you did well and you have a day and a half to party down before everyone goes back to their weekday schedules.

That 3340, you can tell how much use it got looking at the wear on the heads. Blowed up Haflers, gonna need to find the replacement for then NLA MOSFETs, maybe. Since it was available as a kit there is a good build manual out there for it.

Dang all that excitement and you skipped the tuner pic, guess we'll wait on that.

The tape deck was not packed that way from the factory so hopefully you are right, very little use. A belt change may be indicated, but I haven't read a lot about stuff that has to be changed.

Yup, that's the one!!

@jberger picked up a nice Sherwood. Anyway... Hafler amp just needs a bridge rectifier. $6.95. I did a backward test and does not blow the fuse when caps disconnected.

I could not help it and pulled out the Teac. Plays, rewinds, ffwd's, All lights work... Tried to play my tapes that i recorded on from my old Akai 4000ds and they played fast. So, stopped there and will take it in to a tech and get it checked, bias, and all that... I am a noob to open reel. So, want to slow down now and do it right. But, not a scratch on it anywhere. I mean pristine. But, as suspected, not new... but damn, I don't care. Harman Kardon T230 ?? Tuner works... lights up, AM plays great, but could not get a channel to come in on FM... just static. Maybe these needed a big antenna?? Man, I'm such a noob... Sorry guys.

I restrained myself! That Sherwood was freaking MINT. Great score for John.

That white van in the background was floor to ceiling with amps. Those two shipping containers are full of parts and transistors. I have a feeling they’re going to do this again. The stuff in the shipping containers wasn’t so enticing, but there were some good console pulls. There must’ve been 20 Heatkits.

We’re missing @eiraved @LBPete, @gmc, @BirdOnAWire, @mech986 and some other locals! The SoCal groups is shaping up folks... met @vendo81 there (such a nice guy!).

Sounds like a great day! I checked out the other thread and the ad with the pictures. That was nuts. As it was in a container, I wonder if this was supposed to be shipped overseas?

I think that was where the estate sale people were just storing it, but there were some guys that were clearly buying in mass.

They were from the local Vietnamese community, so they may be planning on sending it to Hong Kong or Singapore. Those guys know their stuff as there was so much gear floating around from the 60s and 70s. Kind of like Cuba with the antique cars.

Yup, exactly... they do know their stuff. They were snagging stuff before it hit the table.

Yup, too far for me as well. Oh, well, at least you guys found some amazing gear! Hopefully, we can get another So Cal AK meet up, lots of members around here...
 
Wow there sure are a lot of details coming out now. That Teac, Hafler and sweet dual dial HK sure did get your score fluid coursing through your veins, keeping you from putting all the details together. BTDT, wanna play with the new stuff, not type a trip report. Enjoy the new toys. Good diagnosis on the 220. Let us know when you get it fired up without the flash in the fuse.
