Saturday Score!!

Here's a nudie of the Heathkit AA-50 that I picked up. Brought it up easy on the Variac, cleaned the controls, and it works fine. I got the cover with this, too.

The Hafler I picked up is blows the main fuse... so I will have to go through it... But I know I will find the culprit. Should be easy fix.

@2270 in play I am going to need that variac you got form that sale for $10 bucks!! man, that was a score too...

Oh, I also picked up a Harman Kardon tuner... $20. Get pick of it later. Also picked up some nice metal speaker stands. Nice quality ones. $20. It was a good time.

If you need a variac, I've got a few to lend or sell if anyone in SoCal needs them.

Yup, that's the one!!

@jberger picked up a nice Sherwood. Anyway... Hafler amp just needs a bridge rectifier. $6.95. I did a backward test and does not blow the fuse when caps disconnected.

I could not help it and pulled out the Teac. Plays, rewinds, ffwd's, All lights work... Tried to play my tapes that i recorded on from my old Akai 4000ds and they played fast. So, stopped there and will take it in to a tech and get it checked, bias, and all that... I am a noob to open reel. So, want to slow down now and do it right. But, not a scratch on it anywhere. I mean pristine. But, as suspected, not new... but damn, I don't care. Man, I'm such a noob... Sorry guys.

You're doing just fine! What tech do you know who can work on these TEAC tape decks, especially since TEAC moved out of SoCal a few years ago? If you need any large aluminum reels, let me know, I'll donate a couple to the cause. I have two of those decks as well.

I restrained myself! That Sherwood was freaking MINT. Great score for John.

L to R: Mike, a local tube guy, @HBTim, @Rmac587 (moi), @jberger, @2270 in play.
That white van in the background was floor to ceiling with amps. Those two shipping containers are full of parts and transistors. I have a feeling they’re going to do this again. The stuff in the shipping containers wasn’t so enticing, but there were some good console pulls. There must’ve been 20 Heatkits.

We’re missing @eiraved @LBPete, @gmc, @BirdOnAWire, @mech986 and some other locals! The SoCal groups is shaping up folks... met @vendo81 there (such a nice guy!).

Very nice!! Glad to see AK representing! I couldn't go because 1) I already have too much stuff, 2) I am a parts hoarder so if I spotted transistors, tubes, or other parts that needed rescuing, my minivan would have been full, and I'd have hell to pay from SWMBO who is doing the annual spring cleaning (out of my stuff!). 3) I needed to do my weekly Saturday morning bike ride on my vintage 1972 Italvega Super Special, my other vice but keep me fit but not off the streets. And finally 4) I have to clear out stuff in my garage to make room for some overhead storage installation, plus finally get started on restoring an early 70's vintage sports car. So at some point you guys may be invited over to pick through my stash.

On the teac the 3340 is a 7 1/2 - 15 machine, if you recorded in 3 3/4 which most home machines run at that would be a reasonable explanation

Yup, that’s it!! The Akai is at 3 3/4... I thought that, but then started drinking and forgot that...hahaha

I have a lot to learn about this machine. This thing is no joke. More buttons and settings than I even know what to do with. But, like everything else I have bought and used, I learn and love it.

That sounds like a good time bud... anytime.

@Rmac587 thinks he has a guy that works on his stuff in Tustin... but open to recommendations. And about the 10” reels. Man, that would be great. I started looking for 10” last night. Very cool man.

Bart, that is a FULL plate! I’ll take one of those variacs possibly. Stalled on IMF project a bit. I’ll fill you in. PM coming.
