Saw Stark Trek Beyond On Friday.

Mister Pig

Pigamus Maximus
Took the wife and boy to the theater on Friday to see the new Star Trek movie Beyond. The director of the previous two had ditched this movie in the middle of filming, and went to direct the reboot of the Star Wars movie. Seen that one, what a turd. So Jeremy Lin had signed on to do this new Star Trek, and they started it over. Well they did a fine job! It was a good Star Trek movie, and worth watching. Far better than Into the Darkness. It is worth seeing....a good movie on the big screen. Critics seemed to have nicked it here and there, but for Star Trek people it was a solid effort.

When I found out Lin was going to be the director, I had my reservations. I teased the wife that they were going to have lines like "I live my life a quarter light year at a time." Or they would put a NOS button on the Enterprise for when they were street racing a Romulan Bird of Prey. And Vin Diesel could play Spock and Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock could be Kahn. But in all seriousness Lin did a great job, and good riddance to Abrahams.

Regards
Mister Pig

I'm going to have too see this one before it leaves the theatre. I missed "Into the Darkness" when it came out, So I Bought the Disc.

I liked "Into the Darkness" and thought it was true to the Star Trek creed.
Glad to hear this one will be good too and I'm looking forward to it.

I was so disappointed by "Darkness", that was going to dismiss this one too. Maybe I'll catch it after all.

Saw it on Saturday. Fast and Furious Star Trek is just fine with me.
Anyone catch what type of bike that Kirk used near the end?

Considering that Simon Pegg and his writing partner (can't think of the name right now) wrote this on a ridiculously short schedule, they should definitely be handed the job for the fourth movie, with a normal pre-production schedule. Good movie, lots of fun, and with at least a taste of classic "Trek" philosophizing in there.

I do like Simon Pegg. Is the new series still going to happen? I heard that he was heavily involved. I enjoy the series way more than the movies. Still haven't gotten all the way through Voyager, but I do like it.

New series is a go, as far as I know Pegg is not involved. The first trailer was released at SDCC this weekend.

Planning on seeing it soon too, glad for the generally good reviews here and elsewhere, the trailer had truly given me cause for concern.

Despite concerns from some headline seeking stories about how far ST:Beyond may fall when the new Bourne Movie debuts this weekend, the key to most all Star Trek movies is how much legs the movie has, both domestically and Internationally. Star Trek Movies are never about claiming weeks at number one, but how people react and like the stories and movie treatments. My hope is that they do just fine, probably looking at between 500M to 600M gross against a $185M budget.

By contrast, here's the gross so far for Zootopia, a movie I also like but in a completely different genre:
$341,196,778 (USA)
$681,419,000 (Non-USA)
$1,022,615,778 (worldwide)

Saw it. Liked it... BUT, this Spock shows WAY too much emotion and it just ruins it for me. Couple that with Jim and Spock acting like they constantly hate each other only to end each movie like they are the deepest of friends. I'd give it an A plus if they just changed the name of the movie and not rebooted the original characters. That's just me though... The forced commercial in the middle was odd too. It's like "We interrupt this movie to state that we support gay marriage" Carry on with the movie. Not judging right or wrong or discussing politics or religion, just thought it was forced and odd. It didn't fit. It was like watching a western only to stop in the middle and do a pro or anti abortion commercial.
