Saw Stark Trek Beyond On Friday.

He was emoting way before Vulcan exploded... At least (I assume) Uhura thought so...

Remember Spock's pop on TOS? He was married to a human and didn't emote at all...

Just my humble opinion...

Spock's father was Sarek, and he was full Vulcan and a master of his emotions. He found it logical to marry Amanda, Spock's human mother. Only later in life (in TNG) did you see Sarek lose control of his emotions during his last and fatal illness, Bendii Syndrome.

Spock fought for control of his emotions because he was half-human. When he was young, he was bullied by other young vulcans because he was known to be half human, half vulcan, making him the target of racial bigotry.

We forget that Vulcans still have emotions and an emotional makeup, their history was one of savagery and war. Only through the study and training of logic do they achieve Kolinahr, the purging of all emotions, and the mental discipline of logic. Not all Vulcans in history believed or followed that, and many offshoots left Vulcan to pursue their own ideas - notably the Romulans who are believed to be Vulcan in original origin.

Yes, I am a nerd and Star Trek geek. And proud of it. My only regret is not being able to attend the 50th anniversary Celebration in Las Vegas this week.

And this was my point, Spock was continuously fighting to suppress his emotions (in TOS) and on occasion failing; in this version he never seemed to fight too hard which made his character less interesting than the original (IMHO).

So it goes.

I still liked Beyond, I just thought this was one of the issues I had against it.

I don't diagree with you but we've only had three movies. We can't forget this either:

Just purchased and sat through 'Beyond'. I am a huge Trek fan, but this does not stop me from calling it a waste of time and $10.
BTY, my favorite 'newer' Trek series is 'Enterprise'. Should not have been cancelled. Also, as others have pointed out, re-writing history by imploding Vulcan and in the next movie, by giving us Khan, then asking the OLDER Spock what he knows about Khan just rubs salt into a Trekkies' wound.
