BTW, the LiM arrived safely in just a couple of days (CA-MN). The Yggy is big and heavy. Nice additional feature of the LiM and possibly the MiL flavors is that they don't need the long warm up time nor burn in to sound good.

I am a Schiit fan for the value of sound quality, and hubris wise.
I had the humming with the Vidar so i sent it back for keeps, had planned on scaling up and using Vidars as mono blocks. I cannot comment on the Vidar performance due to the hum, am happily running the same old (no hum) Kenwood Basic M2 with a Modi and a Saga. I bought a Freya + and sent it back due to a led malfunction, they sent me another one it had the same issue, decided i could live with it (got tired of the hassle of shipping stuff back to them). The replacement Freya developed a cold socket, i got overwhelmed by health issues and am just now sending it back. Loved the way the Freya sounded when it was working.

Was the hum from the transformer (i.e. mechanical hum) or a ground induced hum through the speakers?

Today 1-17 I had the opportunity to try it again. I checked all cables and connections. I powered the amp, and it began to hum abnormally. I turned it off and noted a pop heard through my speakers."

The vintage amps, such as your M2, typically have very quiet transformers. I have found it to be quite variable with modern amps. My Aegir does have some transformer hum, but at a low enough level that I can accept it. As information, the Aegir has a Standby button, which when activated, eliminates the light pop upon powering off.
I noted this up thread but my Vidar has a small amount of hum which I assume is mechanical vibration of the transformer. It's only noticeable if I put my ear next to it when I power it up and does not impact the noise floor in the room nor the quality of sound it produces. I have been very, very happy with the unit and use it with a Saga S and Modi 3E. Really high end sound for not a lot of money. I'm very happy and have stopped looking at/for gear.
Not related to anything previously (I think), but for Father's Day I ordered myself the new Mani2. I had 3 of the original Mani's but recently gave one to my son. 1 of the remaining original Mani's is powered by a Chinese aftermarket Linear Power supply that ended up being more expensive than the Mani and I'm happy with both of the original Mani's I still own.
I ordered the Mani2 on June 4 after reading so much buzz on how much better it is supposed to be than the original Mani. There was a notice above the price that said it would ship in 4-6 weeks. Soon thereafter I received an email from Schiit reminding me of the back order status and promising that my credit card would not be charged until the unit actually shipped. No word on the status until I sent Schiit a quick email yesterday inquiring since tomorrow it will have been 6 weeks since I ordered it.
Schiit has great customer service and I quickly received an acknowledgement of email and within a couple of hours, I received a very pleasant reply from "Mayra" with the Schiit team. Evidently, certain parts are still unavailable due to the global supply market ripples and she was most apologetic about the delay. It is uncertain when the unit will ship. Given the uncertainty of today's markets, that affects both Schiit and its customers, I'm not faulting Schiit in any way, just relaying my experience. I'm still very interested to find out how much of an improvement it will be so waiting is tough for those of us that are into immediate gratification.
I'm very happy with my Saga (with buffer), 3 original Mani's, and 3 Modi's. I think one of my Modi's might be a Modi3.

I'm in the exact same boat. Mayra has been great, and she has a good sense of humor. I told her in one email I hope she was having a Schiiti day and she responded in kind. I ordered my Mani2 on June 8th so we're both having our patience tested.
Magically, I emailed Mayra yesterday and voila, I got the PayPal invoice and it is shipping today.

I haven't owned enough Schiit stuff to say I am a "fan", as the only Schiit product I have owned is the unipivot Schiit SOL turntable that I had for a very short time (read why below) and it was mind-warpingly good. Below I have included an excerpt from a private message I sent to another fellow member here about it that describes my endless adulation for it:
'GOOD GOD was the Schiit SOL a f***ing AMAZING sounding 'table!
Everything, and I mean literally everything Michael Fremer said in his review about it was there in spades, and then some. What struck me the most was its granite-like bass solidity, speed and depth, its tonal richness and liquidity from top to bottom, its pace, rhythm and musical momentum, and even with the stock Audio Technica AT-VM95EN cart, just how ridiculously MASSIVE the soundstage was. Almost as if it was limitless and ONLY limited to the recording itself. The soundstage the SOL produced wasn't merely a few feet to each side and behind the speakers, but many DOZENS of feet in every direction. It was INSANE. I listened to an LP of an organ being played in a church and the sound literally travelled what seemed like 50 feet to each side and 80-100 feet upward! Even with the "cheap as chips" Audio Technica cart the soundstage sounded positively MASSIVE. I could go on and on for days about how utterly amazing the Schiit SOL sounded, but I'll save your eyeballs. lol'
As for why I only had the SOL for a very short time: I only had it for a week before literally a once in a billion freak accident happened. For reasons completely unexplained, my bookshelf (loaded with books) somehow split and crumpled on the lower front corner and it fell right on top of my equipment bench where the SOL sat on top of it. When it fell, with the weight of all the books in it, the edge of the case came right down on my turntable and snapped the aluminum plinth in half, snapped the carbon fiber tonearm, mashed and completely wrecked the cartridge, broke the Funk Firm mat I had bought for it, put a warp in the platter and damaged the auxiliary motor as well. Literally every single part of it was damaged and beyond repair. Not only that, but it damaged my equipment bench beyond repair too. In one fell swoop it was well over $1,000 right down the drain!
How such a freak accident happened I'll never understand...
But yeah, that turntable was incredible. As amazing as it already sounded, my mind is blown to think about just how much better it could have sounded with an even better cartridge in it (I didn't have more money for a better one after the purchase of the 'table and mat). Sadly, due to supplier issues, Schiit discontinued the SOL with no plans to bring it back, but GOOD GOD do I hope they do. I'd buy one again in a heartbeat. I almost feel like starting a petition, it was that good.

Though I think that I may have mentioned it already on this thread, I have the Modius DAC and Vali (mkI) headphone amp, both of which (particularly the Modius) I'm very happy with. I'll probably get that new Mani phono preamp as a new turtable that I have uses an odd hoigh output MC cartridge that seems less than and ideal match with my Cambridge Audio phono preamp as it doesn't have much in the way of adjustment to accommodate more unusual cartridge designs... The Mani ones though and the new one is supposed to have even more in the way of adjustments and is supposed to sound even better than the old... which I understand sounded pretty good to begin with. All that and the fact that it's affordable makes it seem like a no-brainer to buy. If I don't give my old phono preamp to a friend of mine (and I may), I can probably sell it for 2/3 of what the Mani costs, which makes it an even more attractive proposition.

I didn't even know the company made a turntable. That one certainly has the look of something more exotic and more expensive than a $1 type thing... Seems that if you were to find another one, you could use the old one for spare parts.

Yeah, the SOL was actually only on the market for a few short months. With the initial release they had a very minor tolerance issue with the pulley size that caused it to run a bit slow, but very shortly after that it was corrected and the one I ordered came with the revised pulley that ran dead on-time. However, what did the SOL in was that Shiit had supplier issues for various components, so they had to deep-six it. This also happened during the first year of the pandemic, so that didn't help either. There was nothing wrong with the SOL's design whatsoever, it was just supply issues. However, the kicker was this 'table was only $799 and came with the supplied AT-VM95EN cartridge. For its performance, this was literally a giant killer at that price.
For what it's worth, here's a review of it. This is what made me want to buy one. I felt the review was very accurate, and IMO, everything that was said about it was what I heard too. I even bought the same mat used in the article to see if I would hear the same improvements as well. Despite having apprehensions about it, sure enough, what I heard was exactly as described. This was a fantastic turntable and a killer deal too.

Sadly, as I mentioned in my previous post, literally every component of the turntable was damaged beyond repair and was either thrown into the trash or recycled. If you had seen it after the accident, you would have said, "Okay, yeah. I understand now." It was utterly destroyed under the weight and velocity of my toppling bookcase coming down on top of it.
That Sol sounded really promising. Too bad they no longer make it.
My Mani 2 arrived yesterday as well as a pretty substantial flare of Vertigo. As a result it's still sitting all packed up on the desk in my garage.
I am enjoying the Vertigo though. Just like riding all the spinning carnival rides until you puke without even having to go to the carnival.
I try not to take it but the prescription Meclizine helped yesterday and brought about a very early bedtime. Today it's just general dizziness which means my daily bike ride probably shouldn't be attempted today. I'll survive and look at the dry heaving as stomach exercises. More soon.
