Where can a fella get a replacement volume pot for a Scott 340B? Any good sights with info about recapping them? Need stuff for "Dummies". Trying to help a friend out. Thanks.

It has been cleaned more than once. Different volume levels are being experienced from left to right at variuos points of volume adjustment. To say it another way, the sound is rarely balanced and flip flops between channels at different volume levels.

What's the value (250K ohms, 500K ohms, etc), and is there a loudness tap (single connection on the other side away from the normal three terminals)?

Regards,
Gordon.

Dual 500K, no taps. Same for both early and late 340B. Shouldn't be difficult to track down.

Dual 500K with ( loudness ) tap, almost impossible to buy new. Can get one made using switches and resistors.
I recapped mine using orange drops 715P.

I was looking at the pdf of the schematics, and I see no tap...did I miss something? (Edit) Duhh, now I see it...

Also, I am going to change my description to "ganged" (two pots controlled by one shaft) rather than "dual" (two pots with separate concentric controls).

Closest thing I know of, might be this:

http://www.cascadesurplus.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/62/products_id/1191

If the circuit can be re-tuned (if it even needs to be) to work with a 350K pot instead of 500K, and if the shaft is appropriate (it's got a "sleeve nut" made onto it, I know, I just ordered a couple of these from them), this might be something that might work...

BTW: Have to highly recommend Cascade. Good people to work with. One of those rare surviving "mom and pop" electronics stores...

Regards,
Gordon.

Thanks for the info guys. I am passing it all along. The receiver is in NY and I am in NC. My friend is not very computer friendly. Lazieness really. He took it to a reapir shop and they said parts could not be found. I just never believe that. Thus I am asking here. He has the schematics and is fairly versed in tracing things out. He wants to use orange drops for the recap. Any forseeable problems with that? Power supply upgrades, biasing resistors, and much needed mods, tweaks????????????????

The scott 340 series just like just about all Scotts use the 500K dual pot tapped for loudness And if I;m not mistaken also has the on/off switched ganged on the back of the switch. Just about impossible to find.....

That's not very encouraging :tears: . Any substitutes that could be made to work?

You know its been a while since I did a 340B and I'm racking my brain trying to remember if the power switch is on the volume control or if that was a model that they moved it to the slide switch........... I think I have a case of the old timers tonight ;) The link of GordanW gave you may just do the trick if the On/off switch is not on the pot. That volume pot looks to have two taps on the back side that could very well serve as the loudness taps. The description doesn't mention them. I bought 15 Alps pots at one time that had the proper loudness taps on eBay but have never seen them since and I'm long past out of them.

Great link Gordan my pockets are now $100 lighter ;)

I have a brand new 500k, tapped for loudness, with 3 amp ac switch pot in my hand. It's japanese vrx-140 M500kx2 sf. metric mounting. Single
shaft. Email me and I will send it to you,I won't need this one. All my other
stuff uses 250k. I hope its ok to do this without the classified listing. I am donating it to the cause.

How many of the 250K versions do you have??? Can you get quanities of them? Do they have the same features and the only difference is the value?

I would be very interested in 500K or 250K it makes little difference.

Sorry, this is a one of a kind part in my stock. Most of my stock is from old PAS Dyna, I'm hoping to need that some day soon for projects. I worked in and owned several shops and just collected cool parts for 3 decades now. I do not know any sources for this stuff except collectors and people like you all. I'm just getting my feet wet on this site and welcome all I can find. I just see so many people that are not experienced techs and are asking good questions. I try to help any way I can. You can always email and get an answer. I take nice old stuff and restore it over a long period of time. If I see someone that needs something that is almost impossible to get, is not reselling and is really going to get a kick out rebuilding something, I will pitch in. My problem is that I seem to adopt every piece of gear that I collect. I do get around to lisening to it all eventually and have my different children days. If I run across a source for high resistance pots for this sort of thing you can bet I will post it.
I'm waiting for an email so I can drop this part in the mail.

No problem I understand completely. Just never hurts to ask. Awful nice of you to offer one up for this cause!!
