Orion lists only The BS-5500, and gives an output of 120 wpc. 1978-82, $800. Two preamps, the AS-5500 & PS-5500.

Where did you find it and what model number is it? Looks like an integrated or a preamp of some sort.

It's the PS-5500 preamp. I think an AKer has it too. I wish I had the Setton separates combo....................:sigh:

also, i meant to say that the PIC was not very good. beautiful preamp though.

Hi all,

If you are looking for a Setton RS-660 and are willing to pay for the privilege of having it packed and shipped from Germany, here's a link to a recently unsold unit in Europe. You would have to contact the seller to see if it has capability of being switched or rewired to use 110V instead of European 220V. From the pictures, it looks very good and may have an international voltage selector (a la Pioneer or Marantz components of the day). I think its visible on the far right. The unit has an added power on switch to the left side of the faceplate.

Here's some of the technical data posted on the auction:

Bart -- That modification KILLED the looks. What a shame.

How's the 16.5 doin'????

Sorry I missed your call.

Why the voltage mod? My BS 5500 has two voltage selectors, one for each channel. I can't imagine why the RS 660 would not come with one standard.

WOW!!! What a set. Thanks for finding that, Henry!!!! Never seen one before....BUT I MUST HAVE ONE. Are you ready to go "head to head"???? :D

That pre-amp, combined with Sam's Amp, and the matching Tuner would be an INCREDIBLE set. I'd take back every negative thing I've ever said about seperates to have 'em all. WOW!!!!!!

Whoever gets them gets them. The most likely place to find them is eBay, even though I have never seen any there. I swear, I have to stop typing here now as my keyboard is covered in my drool.

I've got the Setton set up and have been listening to it.....for the first time, really.....tonite. The FM Reception is excellent. I've been listening through some "new" Koss Pro-4AA Headphones and, while not the best FM I've heard, it sure sounds NICE!!!

I also just noticed that every button and every switch cover on the RS-660 is solid metal. No plastic parts to be found, except for the cover for the tuning dial. Wish that were glass...but I can just imagine it breaking. GASP!!!!

I was taking a look at VS's RS 660 Nudies and comparing it to my BS 5500 and there is a lot in common. That is very good news for me if I ever need work. The RS 660 service manual should help. I hope the manuals get into an AKer's hands.

Don't worry, Sam. They will!

I was over at Tom's today dropping off the two Concept 12.0Ds for him to "reverse engineer". Once he's done, hopefully LBPete will do at least one of the cases. Also dropped off my CR-2020, which developed a very strange problem, which Tom described as a "floating ground". We'll see that that turns about to be.

Anyway, are all the buttons and switch covers on the BS-5500 solid metal too?

AK Member MONTEMAN has the some of the Setton Seperates. This is a quote of his from another thread:

"....Like my Setton AS3300 and TUS600 units??
I can now say I am the proud owner of an RS220 as well.
I paid $33.00 plus shipping off E**y a couple of months ago.
The sound of this thing is amazing!
It has a rich "tube-like" sound I don't get with any of my other SS units.
What I like best is I just don't get fatigued listening to my music (through my Sennheiser headphones) with my Settons."

I've asked him to post some pics of his Settons.

Setton AS3300 and TUS600 pictures

Chris-
I will re-post the pictures I took earlier of my Setton seperates.
If there are any fellow AKer's who would like to see the pictures I posted earlier simply click on the "search" tab, type Setton and go to about the third page to the thread Re: AK setton owners. The thread is dated 9/16/06.
There you will find the pictures.
I also now have an RS 220 and would like to find a copy of the service manual for it. I will take some pictures of it as well and post to this thread.
Have a great day,
Nick

Nick - We're working on getting a set of the Setton Manuals. They're out there. A set is up on E-Bay now.
