Setton BS 5500

Have there been any additions from when that site was posted 4 days ago?

Hi guys,

Here's a webpage I found that has pictures of the BS5500. The website is French so you may have to do a bit of translation.

Found a posting that stated "the name Setton came from the French importer, Jacky Setton".

Also, there was a comment in another post indicating they thought the gear was private label built by Pioneer for Setton, but I have no other independent verification of that. Food for thought. Anybody think to compare this gear with Pioneer Spec type and see if there are any similarities in build or structure?

Regards,

Bart

thanks a lot for quick answer, I'm gonna ask vintagestereo if he has what I'm looking for!

by the way, I don't have any other Setton gear....sorry 'bout that! lol

but I almost entirely destroyed my AS3300 a long time ago, as I didn't know a lot about electronics.....I want to fix it for good now, if I can!!
I don't even know if the Sanken amplifiers are good, and there's nowhere I can find some...I hope they're not dead.......!

I will post another message as soon as I have news!

I too have service manuals for my AS3300 and TUS600. If any AKer would like a printed copy let me know.
I will have a copy done professionally as long as you are willing to pay for the actual reproduction costs only.

thanks but I'd rather pay nothing for a few pictures, even made with a DSC, than pay for a hard copy that I will never get........it can easily be lost during the trip to france.....it has already happened to me!

Understood.
The post office lost a RS220 manual copy Vintage Stereo sent to me.
I can photograph my manual and send jpegs for you if you still need.
Good luck on getting your AS3300 repaired. I hope it works out for you.

hi!

it's nearly perfect because it hasn't been used for almost 15 years........

I don't have hooked up anything because it needs to be fixed and I don't plan to hook it to anything.....except for after repair tests purposes only!

all I want is to fix it!

Hey djsmasm-
I just completed an entire scan of my AS3300 manual in JPEG format.
I will be sending you a PM to get your email address.:tresbon:

Good luck, keep us updated.

hello!

first update, "problems"!! loool

it seems that the service manual sent by monteman is for a AS1100, or other model, but not for a AS3300 as written on the first page...

I didn't see it at first sight, but with a closer look on the schematics, there are a few differences :

- power amp PCB is called "PSMA026COX" and the PCB I have here is called "(...)028COX", and thus the power IC's aren't DC supplied the same on the same leads

- these Ic's aren't the same, I have S-80W instead of S-60W on the schematic,

- and I don't have the small PCB called "PSAZ009COX" : either I've lost it, or it was not in the AS3300 but maybe in the AS1100 or else!

I really don't know if I'm gonna be able to do something with this "thing" but I'll have to fix the power supply first! I'll have to find a cross reference for Q11, 2SC1826, I'll have to search my mess toroughly!!

Even if I can get it fixed electr(on)ically, I'll have to build the 2 brackets that hold the heatsink.....but when this is the last thing to do, it will mean that the amplifier is good to go again!!

thank you, monteman, to confirm the differences I've found, but you might have to open your own AS3300 to do such thing.....

please let me know!

thanks everyone for support in this "heavy duty" which is the repair of my amplifier!!

(I hope my english is quite good.....looool)

Hmmmmm...
This is very interesting.
The manual I have specifically is written as an AS3300 Service manual.
It is a Setton O.E.M manual, not a re-print.
I wonder if Vintage Stereo has a manual scanned to compare to the one I have....?:saywhat:
Is it possible that the AS1100 and AS3300 were primarily the same and maybe there were supplemental sheets on the AS3300???
I don't know.
Anyone have any Ideas??
Thanks,
Nick
