Setton Owner's Club

Good Day,
Thanks for suggestion, however it seems like Elektrotanya has the same scan which is circulating on the web. I do not know it anybody has any better. Issue with that scan in that it looks like it missing a section. And relatively hard to read. So I wonder if anyone has an alternative scan.

Ooph, ok. Setton was contract built using the same design as the Lafayette LR9090. A s.m. might exist of the LR9090 that could give what is needed.

Good day again. I almost finished my rebuild of Setton RS-660. And on assembling the unit noticed that one of the lamp is dead. Here is the picture. Does anyone know where i could get one or suitable replacement. I just never really dealt with those lamps and thus have no idea about available models etc. Thanks a lot Deniss

That looks like a wedge bulb. Pretty sure it is 8V.

Seems like correct as it sits on 7.5 V secondary. Do you have an idea where should i get one and what is the Wattage(or rated current) ?

Search ebay. There are LED options as well. Pretty sure they are 0.3A. IIRC, it is a standard bulb used in Pioneer and Concept receivers.

I found this LED version https://www.ebay.com/itm/324362537899?ViewItem=&item=324362537899
The thing i do not understand is how to attach them as originals seems to be clipped to the wires permanently and there is no socket.

Thanks a lot for replay
Deniss

Edit: I think i figured it out. Thanks a lot for being patient with me :))

Good day again,
I did rebuild/recapped the RS-660 unit. Thanks for the bulb suggestions. Unit sounds excellent. However there one thing. When i turn input selector from Radio (AM) to AUX or from FM to Phono. I hear instant audible "Chpock" . It does not depend on volume control. Does it mean i was lazy and did not desolder the input selector switch and did not clean it well enough? or this instant commutation sound is normal ? So basically i hear it only when i switch from radio to inputs

So initially thought it was dirty selector switch so i even desoldered it and disassembled and cleaned lubed. However it did not change anything. Sound on switch was still there. I suspected some interference on power supply and was right. There was brief disturbance on 12V line. I took a look into schematics and saw that 12 V via selector switch feeds indicator lamps. I noticed that they (AUX and Phono lamps) are much brighter then others (AM,FM). When i disconnected AUX indicator sound disappeared. Seems like load is a bit excessive to switch without brief 12 V line disturbance. May be somebody installed wrong lamps?

Has anybody encountered something similar ??

Thanks a lot in advance

Seems like wrong lamps, had the same in my RS-440. You can try to add a rectifier board, that is what I did, mine were AC fed.
Those little pcb's can be had for next to nothing on eBay. Just need to calculate the actual amps and then use the correct diodes.
They normally go 1 amp, with lot's of leds on the board you will likely need a bit heavier diodes than what is supplied out of the box.
Of course, this means changing regular bulbs into leds.

Hey guys, total old newb here but I guess I'm "in the club". Have a Setton 660 that I bought used in the early 90's, been in my basement for a looooooong time now. Dusted it off and (oops) plugged it in. Popped a capacitor or two, I guess. Any tips on service recommendations? Anything I can do myself (virtually no electronic experience)? How much should I expect to have it serviced? How much is the unit worth, assuming it's in good working condition? It seems like all the lights came on as expected when switching through the knobs. All knobs turn smoothly as I remember them.
thanks for any advice?

hey there: the RS-660 is a very good, and quite rare receiver. I don’t know what they’re going for now, but it is definitely worth getting serviced. I have my RS-440 in daily use. The phono stage is particularly nice. I’d love to find a 660 one of these days. Hard to estimate service costs, where are you located? Definitely look for somebody with experience with vintage solid state.

I'm a new member of the club...AS-3300 and TUS-600. Picked them up yesterday. I hope to hook them up to my Klipsch Fortes this week and put them to work!

Beautiful! Let us know your thoughts about the sound. I'm particularly curious about that tuner.
