Should I return this dustcover?

Been watching ebay for some time for a JVC QL-F4 cover. One finally showed up, in England. Seller described it as "COSMETICALLY SOME RUBS / LIGHT SIGNS OF USE". And his photos the cover didn't look too bad, the way he shot them. Got it tonight. Looks totally different, badly scratched, inside and out. Would it be worth returning as I would have to cover return shipping, or try to polish it out? Here are some pics. 1st is his, rest are mine.

IDK. I certainly wouldn’t leave the seller a high rating for “Item as Described.”

Should have been described as: “Scratched/scuffed as f*ck!”

If it’s going to annoy you every time you see/use it, send it back. It’s not worth the constant aggravation.

Don't try to do anything with it, like polishing it until AFTER you negotiate a settlement. I recommend taking pictures and file a claim with the seller. The auction site has changed their policies. I think now you file a return and it gives the seller an opportunity to respond to you. I think if the seller did not use the word "scratches" you need to file the return as not as described. Not sure about international transactions but not as described disputes usually require seller to pay for return shipping. Scratches inside the cover? Incredible!

I'd first contact the seller and state your dis-satisfaction with the received condition not light scuffs. Work out a credit discount to be refunded. Once you get a small refund, then leave the seller a lower mark for his description, and score him for the normal feedback check boxes.

Then get to work with a drill and a suitable polishing kit to restore the condition to your satisfaction. Yeah it's some work but it will be worth it in the long run since you stated they are hard to come by.

Well I paid for it on Sept 28 and did not receive it till last night. The Ebay international shipping sucks.

Get some supplies together and work on it during a football game. Could look great in the end

I have a friend that specializes in dust covers and that as others have said that's not too bad.Once buffed out it'll look like a million $$ .Lighting is always key when selling anything and that's why I always take many pictures from all angles when selling stuff so there's no surprises like you've encountered.

They did not show true condition it does appear. I have little info on what the average selling price for one would be. Assuming that they don't come up that often for sale by themselves. Was the price (~$100?) low or on the higher end?

At the least negotiate a discount or leave a negative explaining what happened. That may get you a discounting from them to have you remove it.

I venture a guess if one were to take the time and expense. That it would cleanup and appear presentable. Some of the deeper scratches you may still have to get use to.
No cracks a plus and hinges too!

I would say a decent price if was a good cover plus shipping from England. But just a shock to see it compared to the pics that were posted. You can look it up on ebay to see the rest of the pics he posted.

It appears from the one photo of his that you posted, that he (a scammer) was attempting to conceal the true condition of the item—especially if he never mentioned that scratches were present. You shouldn’t have to spend time and money correcting a problem that shouldn’t be there. He should refund you and you shouldn’t have to be bothered with returning it.

This is simply my opinion. It has no bearing on what’s acceptable, rule-wise, in the universe where you purchased it.

"I'll lay it on this "Astroturf" so nobody can see the scratches."

Ask for a partial refund or turn him in to eBay for misrepresentation.

Doug

I'd challenge him on it. It seems clear he took that photo to obscure the scratching. No way am I giving positive review for that seller either way, but especially if he is unwilling to return money or accept the item back for refund.
