Show Me Your Sansui!

Also, a local Eight seems to have found its way into my collection this afternoon. Seller's brother brought it home from Vietnam. Serial No. shows a May 1971 production date. Completely original and unmolested. Dirty, but the faceplate is cosmetically mint and the innards are dusty too but look very clean otherwise. Should clean up very well. Early model without the protection relay. Less than 15mV DC at the speaker terminals. Everything seems to be working. I think I'll just give this one a good scrub and service and see what it sounds like in its original state (unless I find something that needs attention). Need to replace the switch labels too. It's picking up stations on the bench without an antenna.

That is a quality case! Good looking wood. And can't beat the charm of that well worn original manual.

Did your service manual come with a schematic inside? For units that I want to restore for myself and keep, I like to buy the genuine service manual. In my experience, some Sansui SM's have pull out schematics and some have separate folded schematics that can fall out and get lost. My schematic is missing. I hope you got lucky.

No, it's missing unfortunately. The envelope is ripped off and missing from the bottom as well. The SM is really tattered, too. There are some big chunks torn from some pages. The fold out in the SM is an exploded view assembly diagram I think. I like to collect the original SMs and OMs for my collection as well. I have a drawer full of them at this point. Even if I can print a .pdf online, I still typically buy an original if I come across one.

Same - I print them, but I like the originals. The 800 is a big loss.

I got it.

Yes.

After a long search, I got the original mat of the SR-929.

For free !!!!!!

I found someone selling a SR-929 tonearm clipholder and that wasn't damaged and the 2kg platter in a perfect condition, so I asked if the guy also has the mat left. So he added it and shipped all.

Yes.

What a sexy beast of a mat

And now for something completely different - finally, without lubrication, without ripped off parts, without stink and without damage.
Somehow 1mm or 2mm higher than the mat I used until now on my SR-929. Let's see what the needle thinks about such a higher mat.

And just like that, the last resolution for 2026 has fallen, and it's not even the end of February! I posted in this forum a couple of weeks ago that I was going to ride off into the sunset with my a607 MOS Ltd, a907KX and X901 and never look back (even though I had this X11 in transit :D). God, I'm weak!

Anyway, on to the fun stuff- the X11 came from Japan, and I've normally had pretty good luck with gear listed as Junk show up and simply need switches/pots cleaned and general service and voila, a working unit! However, not so lucky this time round. Powers on but doesn't come out of protection (plus the power light is burned out). This is about the 3rd or 4th X11 I've owned over the years, and I just don't seem to hang on to them. I 'm determined to try and get this one restored but part of my challenge with these X11's is finding a Sansui guru nearby (Ohio) that's willing to give it the proper treatment.

The D11-II wasn't even on the radar until last week when it popped up and being the weak individual I am, I jumped on it! A few minor physical flaws but super clean and it does work. Very slow to come out of protection (12-15 second) but sounds great. It will be added to the list of pending restorations. I've always wanted one of these units and I'm happy to finally own one!

Now back to convincing myself it's still not too late to restart the no more audio gear resolution (hint-it won't happen)!

Ohio?? Where in Ohio? I’m in Cleveland and have TONS on Sansui (some working when I got it, some rehabbed by me and now working, and some waiting for my bench). I recently picked up a D607X, and an a907DR (both working wonderfully) and the coup de grâce, a B-2301L (working but needs rehab). I have the X1/T1 combo which works but won’t be turned on again until I have been through it.

Ps. I feel like I almost bought that D11ii you just picked up off eBay a few days ago. I wonder if that’s the same one. Those are unique i think because they contain MC step up transformers in them.

I'm just down the road near Mansfield. Funny enough, I had the X1/T1 about 8 years ago but found another home for them as we were moving at the time. Fantastic set! I bet that B2301L is a beast.

Yes- it's likely the same one. Pretty reasonable buy it now price and the seller really packed it well. Arrived today and looks good. Has the delayed protection and an issue with the tone switch. I'm more of a collector/hobbiest and minimal tech skills. I can get into some things but nothing to the extent of knowing what I'm doing with these advanced machines.

Well done, I say! Resolutions should be achievable and I'm afraid you were simply overreaching with this one! Don't sweat it. I would still like to get an X11 myself. Had one on the hook last year, but the deal fell through. But yeah, that seems to be a tricky one to find and work with. I love the D11ii too. Only thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger on one is my D9 and my D907X - I feel like I have that style/era/circuit covered. I still eyeball them every time one comes up though. Congrats!

Thanks @petesui It was a painful wait game that was a bit stressful, but well worth the wait.

@Sansuiman Before this deal I had never even seen a BA-5000 in person. I figured my BA-Power Amp collection would forever stay stalled out at the BA-3000. When this BA-5000 got on my Sansui radar I was all over it. Even the seller said I had to have it to complete the lineup.

@DB-7, yeah, if you don't have a CA-606 for the BA-100 and 150 (two of my favorites) you're missing out. Congrats on the BA-5000. I keep telling myself I'll have one eventually, but it's a long term goal.
