Show Off Your Small Listening Space

This is my 10x11 "man cave" in progress. Just got moved back in after getting carpet installed and waiting for the loveseat to be delivered. Still searching for some 70's tastic curtains. I had to paint color matched to the label on my copy of Led Zeppelin's fourth album. :music:

Is that a speaker that the lava lamp is on? If so, try moving it out from the corner and walls and see if things improve. Soundstage should become more realistic, bass less tubby, and mids/highs less smeared.

Here's my small dedicated listening room, it's 9x12x8.

Proposed Space

Getting ready to move into a new house which has a 10 x 12 guest suite. So all I can show are drawings (a pic as the space is now with the current owner is also attached). The gear (MC 275 power amp, MC C220 pre, and VPI classic turntable) will go on top of the cabinet below the TV.

In the cabinet I'll have a computer and DAC as well as a Marantz 2270 receiver. Speakers (Sony ES NA bookshelves) will go on stands on the side of that cabinet.

On the other side of the room will be my desk (this is going to be my office as well) which will have an HDMI cable to the TV as well as some other cables (we'll run it through the walls and ceilings to the other side of the room).

I'll have a rug on the floor and some grasscloth wall covering to help with sound absorption. Can't wait for this.

Which brings up a good question I have not been able to find an answer to. I don't want to use my tube system as background music all day. I'd rather use the Marantz for that. Is there a way to connect the same set of speakers to both amps and only use 1 amp at a time?

Jonathan

Man, y'all are making my 9.5 x 14 space sound big.

Nice systems so far. I need to get my room treatments in, and clean up. Then some pictures.

Here is my listening area:

My latest and best find is the SX-1250 hooked up to HPM-100 and a AudioTechnica turntable.

You realy need to do something about your speaker placement. Do you get any kind of imaging or sound stage? Try placing them equal distance from the wall. And also on a plain with eachother eqally distanced from the rack. Let us know what happens.

Thanks MoTed!

Suggestions taken, Ill try it out.

What is the distance from the right channel to the wall? Can you place the left channel equal to that distance? May make or break the sound. Remember, for true stereo imaging, what you do to one channel, generally, you must also do to the other.
Ultimately it is all about the sound. If you are happy with it, then it is good. But with out exposure, how can one learn that there may be better. I do like the Pioneer you have. Good stuff. Now to make the best of it.

That's the problem, its a 42 inch doorway into the room on the right. But I do notice improvement.

Thanks for the input.
