So I'm not crazy - I've read it's basically a Sumiko Pearl with a longer, thinner cantilever and an "improved" stylus but this is gleaned from some forum talk and AI.

The 201 also got a bit of a bad rap, costing initially over twice as much as the Pearl, but now they're $150 or so. Gimme Shelter indeed.
I'd take AI with a small siberian salt mine. I've found it's wrong more than it's right, and I wouldn't trust my health to it's advice.
If we look at it a little differently,
Ortofon Blue is just a red with an improved stylus
Ortofon Black is just a Bronze with an improved stylus
LVB Black is just a Black with an improved stylus

Not very "sexy" but plenty functional. SL-QL15 linear tracking arm with a Stanton 737 and nos elliptical bonded stylus:

Sounds wonderful! Recently switched to an AT132EP with a VMN60ML replacement stylus:

That 737 is no slouch, but it's bonded eliptical just can't perform as well as that ML Stylus.

All this talk about Audio Technica made me (finally?) take out my carts, adjust the shells where necessary & decide which ones to keep and which ones to sell. Alas, that other one is still a work in progress but I'll get there ... eventually.

From left to right: AT-VM530 EN (mounted on AT-HS10 headshell), AT-VM540 ML (AT-HS10 headshell), AT-VM740 ML (AT-MG10 headshell)

From left to right: AT-XP cartridge with the original XP3 stylus (on AT-HS6 headshell), AT-XP cartridge with VM95E stylus (on AT-HS6 headshell)

From left to right: Slightly used AT-3600L from China (complete with mounting hardware & stylus protector cap), a brand new (never used nor tested) AT XP3 stylus inside VM95E box, a brand new (never used nor tested) AT VMN 30EN stylus, yet another (brand new) AT-3600L and last but not least barely used AT-VM510 CB cartridge with its original stylus

So....how is the new cart? It looks great. :p

Sounds fantastic... So good in fact I pulled my rack apart to de-ox all the pots and switches in my Pre-amp. The MC loading switch was flithy causing some channel drop out if you didn't cycle the switch before playback.

I was tempted to just go with the MC-X30 but I am glad I went all in on the 40.

Very nice! Shibata stylus, right? I'll bet it sounds great.

Hi, Here my latest arm as I am exploring the wonderful alignment f under hang. This one had Baerwald's blessing & he published it at of about the same as his version of Lofgen's A alignment.
It is 15.5'' long & is aligned at the 90mm Null point, which is the same point used by Viv Labs with their U/H arms

I have only used this arm in my 2nd electronics workshop room so far. but it is the only arm (so far at least) that i have played on my Tech SL15 T/T, that has managed to send shivers' down my back.

Photo's are not the best as I am now cursed with Rheumatoid Arthritis & cannot hold the damn camera still, but such is life!!

Cheers
