The location of the port isn't really too critical. It may be a little more prone to picking up some air noise from the basket or if there was a vented pole piece, but more than likely if there was a difference, it would be miniscule.

Only thing I'd be worried about is midrange bleedthrough from the back of the cone. If you don't have a direct line into the port then most of it gets eaten up in the stuffing. With that design it might let a little more through. However, those are crossed pretty low so it's probably not an issue.

Hey Z- no slight taken, I know the "E" thread is pretty busy now with more technical discusions, that's fine. I will post there again when the project is completed. I am just grateful for the ideas found and the hopeful results!

DJ- I will end up replaceing that elbow port with something else. I am waiting on the new woofers to arrive so I can break them in and then run their parameters to figure my port design after that. FWIW I too agree not to have the woofer loading directly into the port mouth! Good observation!

I built in the horn as per the EV drawing that I have. I forgot to take pics during that part of the construction.

The grill, metal grid, front trim, drivers and crossover are actual EV parts that I got from Ozmoid. I only built the cabinet.

Did it take a lot of filing around the edge of the waveguide to do what you did there? I definitely wouldn't want a ridge of any sort at the horns mouth.

I do not use any filler so much as I "rabitted" out the hole and recessed the lens. After that I did dome minor edge filling and glued it into place. I like the look and function.
Taping off & painting around the lens opening was tricky though. I found if I over tape the opening with blue tape, then took my sander and sanded off the excess, that worked pretty good to outline the part I wanted painted.

Ah, i thought the front piece was some sort of counter top laminate, not just paint which is why i thought you may have to do some filing (as opposed to filling).

A couple of final shots of the completed JBL L26 (mini) "Econowave" project.
This turned out very nice, check the "econowave thread" for exact details.

As Zilch pointed out, an excellent way to get into the DIY thing by recycling old cabinets and breathing new life into them. These cabs were in the scap heap, painted a dismal black and doomed for extingtion! I took them on as a "dare to reapir" from a friend and made him a believer for sure!

My point here was to show what you can do with a bit of time, a simple skill saw, a few requisite parts/ materials, doing some thread reading and then time to build and outstanding little set of speakers that will surely amaze you and most of your audio friends.

The sound is outstanding for their size- very efficient and a lot of fun to sit down and lsiten to. Would be super for small tube amps and minmal space!

To finish these off I am going to put on a simple fine mesh round screen from Part Express to cover the 10" woofers. Thanks form looking!

found old 'Monteverdi by Lloyds' cabinet stereo on recycle pile. Unit was too far gone (snap/crackle/pop) but as u see I repackaged the speakers. They sound better than the old Panasonic Thruster hand-me-downs I've had.
eventually of course I'm going to get some REAL speakers...

I used white wood from Lowe's and plain black cloth to cover.

This is a DIY Klipsch center channel...

I did not have space for a third Heresy, so I came with this. There are a couple of commercial products out there of similar layout. I made my own. The woofers are dual 8.00's side firing into the side panels. The SPL and impedance of the two are similar to a 12.00 K-22. It worked well, the sound is very similar to the Heresy. As far as bass, what the heck: Heresy have no bass anyway. It is a center channel that can really bark.
