The location of the port isn't really too critical. It may be a little more prone to picking up some air noise from the basket or if there was a vented pole piece, but more than likely if there was a difference, it would be miniscule.
Only thing I'd be worried about is midrange bleedthrough from the back of the cone. If you don't have a direct line into the port then most of it gets eaten up in the stuffing. With that design it might let a little more through. However, those are crossed pretty low so it's probably not an issue.
