First pic: (2) White Instruments brand HQ analog 1/3rd octave, model: 4660 EQ as installed in my living room`s A/V rack for the Mc. XRT-30 tri-amplified main speakers, a single Peavy brand, model: EQ 31 above them for the timbre matching to the 30s Mc. center channel speaker.

Second pic: Rear sited surround sound amps/EQs short rack`s 2 twin channel Yamaha pro/commercial series with their optional tamper resistant protective covers installed on the model: Q2031 1/3rd octave EQs for the L/R sides and rear channels for the Living room`s HT surround sound channels.

All that system`s channels were very carefully voiced to the room well over 18 yrs. ago using my IVEY brand Class 1: IE-30A RTA/SLM.
All EQs remain in their respective channels circuit`s path, but their EQ is disengaged due to the current Integra A/V/P taking care of the current voicing and timing requirements via it`s Audassey system voicing/tuning firmware program.
And if the Integra breaks, I have a Lexicon DC-1 surround sound processor and the EQs re-engaged to hold me over until I can get the Integra A/V/P repaired or replaced.

3rd pic: is my master bedroom`s still in use EQ, is also another Yamaha brand EQ model: Q2031, and also with the optional smoked security/dust protective cover installed, for voicing the bedroom`s Mc. XRT-18 line array speakers in there, also very carefully voiced/tuned with the IVEY RTA/SLM.

I picked up an old BSR EQ-1 5 band EQ but I gotta say, I really don't think I need it! My system sounded good by it's self and even better with the DBX 3BX...I certainly don't need any more than a 5 band...maybe 7 band! Anything else would be overkill!

A buddy of mine uses different settings on his 12 BPC linear equalizer for specific LP's and CD's. He also constantly tweaks his bass and treble controls.

Me? I have no tone controls, but I use an equalizer. It's a 12 BPC DSP. However, it's used only for room correction. I measure my in-room response and use the readings to set the appropriate corrections. Once this is done the DSP is not touched unless the room and/or gear is changed.

Yamaha GE-40. I have a bypass switch on my preamp. I use the eq kind of like a loudness switch, for low volume listening.

My wife uses a basic mid-80s Technics EQ we bought 'new'. She uses it now for her 7-component 5.1 Sony rig in the family room.

That EQ traveled halfway around the world with us and even went through the Pinatubo volcano (which wasn't fun) & still functions perfectly & sounds wonderful. Doesn't even skip a beat. Never even put 'slider lube' in the levers. Go figure? Just 'unreal' really - defies logic.

My main system uses a Soundcraftsmen Pro-EQ 44 Third Octave EQ. I keep it set to provide Fletcher-Munson-esque correction for low-level listening. The Soundcraftsmen Pro-Control Four pre-amp has loops that allow instant by-passing of anything in the signal path at the push of a button so when I want to play loud, I just take the EQ out of the signal path. I have probably eight other Soundcraftsmen products that include EQ, such as another Pro-EQ 44, several Pre-EQ combinations, and a few separate older EQs.

The rest of the system is bi-amped JBL 4345 with Crown PS-200 and PS-400 using an Ashly XR1001. I make the system easy for the family to use with the Adcom ACE-515 sequencer. There's also a matching Soundcraftsmen Pro-Tuner Four here that seldom gets used, as well as an Emotiva DAC to provide remote-control volume and input control, and a TEAC CD-P350 player with USB input for an iPod, as well as a SqueezeBox Touch for any Internet radio or access to computer files.

Yamaha EQ-550. Curb find along with the Onkyo DX-1800 CDP below. I mostly use the EQ with my cassettes. Or bootlegs regardless of source media.

I have the same eq. Worked great for a few years, now it randomly starts flashing and sound is messed up

I have noticed a couple of times recently some distortion in the left channel. Working the sliders back and forth fixed it. I'm going to open it up and hit the sliders with contact cleaner as soon as I have a chance.

I've had an ADC Soundshaper 3 sitting on a shelf for a few years since I bought it. After getting a Dynaco tube amp for a second listening setup and only using a tube preamp without tone controls, I decided to recap it and put it in to control the bass from the CV380SEs. Really liking the control. Need to finalize the setup position a bit, but it works great together.

IIRC, this one was adjusted using a decibel meter and playing test tones from seated position. WORK!

I have two old ADC Sound Shaper Equalizers sitting in the garage (a black SS-415 and a silver one- don't remember which, but it has mechanical sliders) I don't use them since nothing new that I have has tape loops to run them with. I could hook them up to my old Onkyo P-306RS and P-304 preamps but I don't use those anymore either- I prefer to use newer preamps with remote controls (because I'm old and lazy). I have A Schiit Lokius in the office and a Loki Max in the main stereo- both have 6 bands that have a lot of overlap and balanced connections and it is very easier to fine tune the sound to fix schiity recordings than any of the old style EQ's, especially the Loki Max as it has remote control.

Sansui SE-9 Compu-Equalizer.
Came with a calibrated microphone to adjust the spectrum analyzer for a flat response, in each room with white noise. Once set it up, it automatically adjusts all levels individually. It's cool watching the levels move up and down by itself.
