I was living in Subic, Philippines, when the Mount Pinatubo blew up just outside Angles city. We were 60 miles from Angeles but still got covered in 1-2 feet of ash. It wasn't fun, as you can imagine. I was just there, it just happened - that's all. (For me it was just another disaster. Been through 7 types of disasters, some more than once. Many hurricanes, USA and Asia..
)Really, didn't keep much at all from the house we were renting but when we moved, I did keet the Technics EQ because I really liked it, the way it functioned, it worked outstanding, & still does. Only 'electrical' component I kept. Volcanic Ash in the air is corrosive and abrasive so ash really messes up everything. Inside the house there wasn't ash, of course, but the ash is still in the ' air ' in the house. Can't do anything about it.
Looking @ the EQ right now in the family room stereo stack in the cab. Still works like a champ.

Wow, Mr. Ferris sure likes the ability to tweak, apparently. And fun to see so many images of Soundcraftsman gear in a thread. Soft spot for their well designed and built units from a years long quest to get vintage Infinities with the Watkins drivers to speak properly. Maddening, as I came to the conclusion that they have an intrinsic lag to them. And yes, fully agreed that Ashley makes some fine kit.

Wow! So many super cool systems.
But, as for number of bands, sometimes you only need a "little" tweak. I consider my 4-band Schiit Loki to be an EQ. Moreso, My SAE 1800 parametric is definitely an EQ, even though, technically, it's only bass and treble per channel. Just extremely tweakable bass/treble. I'm not posting a pic, 'cause neither is actually in my system at this moment.

Had one of these(MK27) back in the later 70's, it was really good at picking up CB, and lo band police and fire radio transmissions.
Well...here is my Sansui SE-9. I never used it, other than to see if it works. It does, sort-of. I rescued it from a BAD life as is probably evident from the pic. It lit up, had no smoke so I hooked it up to check it out, after some DeOxing. Seemed to work ok, but while I was checking, flipping switches and turning knobs, I looked away for a minute. When I looked back, some of the sliders were moving ON THEIR OWN! What the................. Good thing I wasn't listening to 'Ghost In The Machine'!! So I got a manual and found out that it can save several settings, and bring them up. Of course, I HAD to open this puppy up. It has the craziest system of real tight wires behind the face plate...much worse than the old style tuning cables!!
Anyway, I don't use it even if I wanted to because I can't loosen up most of the sliders enough to be comfortable letting the wires move them. I DeOxed the H--- out of them, but they won't loosen up much. Looks like condensation has been living in there for years, plus one of the slider shafts is broken and the knob gone. The only way I can see to fix that part is replace that entire sliding component, which is probably beyond my comfort zone.
Probably would have to replace all of them since I can't get them to loosen up. There is quite a bit of rust on the frame, and corrosion on the front plate.
So..it is sort-of rescued.

I've got a Coustic EI HEQ-7000 10 band that I bought at Circuit City back in the early 80's. It's been sitting in my closet gathering dust for at least 30+ years. I've been tempted to clean it up and use it with my headphone rig but, so far, haven't done so. I plugged it in a couple of years ago and it powered up. It didn't catch fire and the lights came on so I guess that's a positive. I wonder if it's even worth fooling with sound wise? I'd probably have to submerge it in a bucket of contact cleaner for a week to get the dust out of it.

My system has been updated since my last posting particular Question. The SAE program EQ has been replaced by a Mcintosh MQ 112. I do wish it had concentric knobs to touch up each channel individually. You notice I had to put modified end plates from a MC 502. The current end plates make the unit to wide, Its also why I can't change to a C-40 from a C-34. The 40 is to wide and also much to deep. The new pre-amps don't interest me because they have removed the controls and connections I like. Loudness , Record selector, full Mode selector, processor loops, tape monitor and monitor amps. I use CD recorders instead of tape machines.

BTW: There was a cassette deck shipped and been sitting in my house for over 4 months till I open the box. I don't remember buying it. I thought it was a nice looking deck like yours but I sent it back to shipper anyways.
AudioSource EQ ONE Series II. Same one as seen in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. I have the calibration mic also

I've had EQ adjustment in my system for the past quarter century. Current model is a Rane ME15S, prior to this one a Rane 60 with 30 bands per channel. 15 is plenty now. I only use it now for bootlegs. current model is a professional rack mount which doesn't have a power switch. So I just cut the power cord and installed an inline switch.
