Show Us Your Sonys!!!

The 6120 has a case. Do you want access to it as a template to make a case or have Merrylander make 1?

Hi Brian - If the one I got off of eBay doesn't work, then I definitely will want to do that. Thanks for the offer. Glenn

No, that wasn't me and even if it was, your higher bid won it though thanks for your considerate offer. I picked up on the listing for the good photos of the case and good dimensions as well. It will fit the 6060F, perhaps Whitehall or Brian would be interested if it doesn't work on your 6200F.

My pleasure. If the case fits the 6060 and not the 6200, I think Whitehall's receiver was sans the case. If he has 1, then I'd be interested since my case is pretty well ripped on the back edge.

On that case, the 6060 fits the opening but seller reported it as 14" deep. The metal case on the 6060 is only 12 1/8" approx so the wooden case might be a bit deep. I don't imagine thats a big problem but hole locations for feet may be off.

I looked at this case and compared dimensions and concluded that it wouldn't fit my 6060FW.

There may have been some questions of using innies vs. outies.

Axel wonderful new page on TVK of case cross-references does state that the 6050 case will fit the 6060.

Depth is important in that the heat risers in the back could be blocked in too long of a case. For a tuner or pre-amp, this isn't much of a problem but for a receiver, it is important. Of course, there's always the saw.

If this case fits, I'd be very interested - love those wood cases!

Whitehall,

do take measures first as there is always the possibility of a typo hickup in the literature.
Especially in Sony's :D

Just seen a real awful movie (real awful - "Hypercube") and cross referencing Sony's nitty-gritty, although not lethal for sure, is a little bit like said Hypercube!

My measurements of the 6060F are 5 1/16" h x 16 7/8" w x 12 1/8" deep including the metal case; probably add another 1/2" to the depth for overhang on the back. Seller claimed 5 3/16" h x 17"w on the I.D. and overall depth of 14" which I am assuming includes the side flanges on the front. Grille location could be a hitch; should start at 6" from front edge of the top and extend to 10 1/4" from front edge.

I've started on a prototype from some red oak I had on hand. I'll post pics when complete.

My case for the 6060 measures 13 1/2 deep on the top front to back. So not far off the 14". I think provided the vent is sufficient for the heat x-fer a 14" case should be okay. My 6060 runs very cool even after 12 hours. 1 ran rather warm and this is the 1 I tried to have fixed. The amp runs cooler than the 1 I run now. Simply a matter of about 10 electrolytics being exchange out. eventually try to the the mpx working.

According to the Sony service manual for the STR-6060FW, the dimensions are 17-3/8 X 5-15/16 X 13-3/16 inches ore 440x150x350 mm.

Don't know if that includes the knob clearance on the front and connector clearance on the back.

Those dimensions match quite well to the width of the faceplate, the overall height of the unit from bottom of feet to top of faceplate and the depth from furthest protusion of monitor switch on front panel to rear of unit not including connectors or from front of face panel not including controls to rear including clearance for the AM antenna and connectors.

Adding the 1/2" protrusion of the side flanges past the top of the case to Brian's 13 1/2" measurement of the top of the case gives the 14" total depth measured by that vendor. I'm willing to bet the vent lines up correctly and the case will work on the 6060F if it doesn't do the trick for YB2's 6200. I noted on Axel's site that the dimensions of the 6200 and 6120 are given as 483 x 145 x 405 mm, roughly equal to 19 3/8 x 5 11/16 x 15 15/16. I assume they would relate to the units in the same way Sony's dimensions for the 6060 do.

the first kick at the cat

Here is the prototype, fresh from the clamps. Made from 4 1/2 board feet of solid red oak, total vent open area is about 30 sq. in., side panel grain runs vertically instead of horizontally in order to avoid cross-grain construction.

Still a few wrinkles to sort out, but the jigs are made and the concept proven.

I've included the pictures from YB2s case auction for comparison.

Based on all of this info it looks like you can have this case, should you want it. STR-6200F is 2" wider. Send a PM, if interested.

Source for Sony bulbs?

Service Manual for the 6060 came in and tells me I need 3 of Sony bulbs, Sony Part No. 1-518-051. Does anyone know of either a source for them or a cross reference to provide generic equivalents? Also need a pair of 1-518-070 fuse type bulbs.

I've got an esnipe in on a piece of Sony gear. I'm stoked and really hope to win it. Less than 15 hours to go ....
If I win, I'll get a battery for my digi camera and take some pix.

So besides YB2's case for my STR-6060FW he's promised to send, I'm going to need an additional two wood cases - TAC-1s for my new ST-5000FW and TA-1120A that I've got coming from Toronto. A nice dark red Hounduras Mahogany would be my favorite although red oak or cherry might work too.

Checked the 6060FW and there are only 4 bulbs - three tiny ones for the AM/FM/FM Stereo indicators and one green-tinted bigger one for the tuning meter and right end of the tuning scale - it's a bayonet type. Couldn't find a fifth bulb although it could use one for the left hand side of the tuning scale. No fuse types seen.

bully - how did it go? What did you end up with? Enquiring minds, and all that.
