Show your JBLs off

Here are my 4312A's. These were my main speakers until I got the big Altec 19's. I've had em since 1996. Bought them from a local seller. Sometimes I use them with my Altecs but they mostly sit unused.
A simple case of too nice to get rid of even though I don't use them as much.

I Just might use them for movies when I get my new Sony Wega next month! :thmbsp:

I've heard that the L166's sound real nice. How would the compare to a set of L100's or some L65 Jubals? Just wondering, I may feel the need to grab another set of JBL's. Thanks, Brad

I have had a pair of L100s and L166s at the same time and while the L100s sound good, very forward and in your face, I prefer the L166s which have a very nice high-end sound that is just missing from the L100s.
I also own a pair of mint L65s and I really really enjoy these speakers, like the L166s(066 tweeter) the L65s(077 tweeter) have an extraordinary high-end sound. Conventional wisdom would suggest that the L65 are the more highly regarded speaker but IMO there's not much of a difference between the two, In fact I think the L166s may have the better overall sound.
My main system has a pair of L65s and a pair of L166s.
My second system I have a pair of L166s along with a pair of HPM100s.

I haven't heard the L100s or L65s but I cannot imagine them sounding better, possibly different. They made a believer out of me.

I'm a believer too, I currently have 3 pair of L166s!!! :thmbsp:

They look nice Russ!!!

My small JBL lineup consists of a pair of L56's, JBL62's and a newly acquired 2225H woofer that I picked up today.

Tests fine and will be going into a ported 5 cu-ft cab tuned to around 35-40. I found plans for the cabinet on the Lansing site. If anyone has other ideas for a sub cabinet for this driver I would be interested in hearing about it. I would like to maximize the LF preformance without stressing the driver too much.

Thanks, RC

Excellent examples of vintage JBL. STP's L300 pictures do a good job of showing the size of the LE85 horns, but everyone should see some 375 horns in person...they absolutely dwarf the '85s. The drivers are almost the size of basketballs.

I have an S7R driver set that I'm going to add some 077 tweeters to, build some custom cabinets for, and tri-amp with an active crossover. I also have a set of '69 vintage S8R Olympus. They're ridiculously good sounding speakers, IMHO. A sonic wet-dream especially for Jazz and the like.

Wonder if you know which period 375's are the best, I have one from 1967 that is blue. Should I look for a match or find a pair from a different year, they're for an Olympus S8R.

Yes, these are mine.

My newly acquired JBL 250TI's. Would not trade them for the world!

:)

Guess I may as well chime in if I haven't already.
My JBLs are the C50 Olympus systems with the S8R speaker complement.
They can be seen on the Lansing heritage site, 69 catalog, top row, right end. The S8R complemtnt can be seen in the adapters chart at bottom of page.
I bought mine from an HP work collegue in 1976, who built them from JBL plans and components. Mine don't have the fretwork grills, but cloth material, otherwise they are 100% JBL and sound like it. When my friend had them they were driven hard for several yrs for partys and HP gatherings. Then divorec forced their sale, to me. I haven't driven them quite so hard, they very efficient, but on ocassion I like to crank them up and let them breath. They never cease to amaze me. Great speakers. I clasify them as BIG JBLs.

Thank you! There are elliptical mouth McCauley 800hz horns with JBL 2421 compression drivers where the stock LE5-9 cone mids used to be. that is why there are those black boxes sticking out of the top/back.

Hey Tullman, those l100's appear to have pioneer HPM mids in them, no?

I hang out at Lansing Heritage quite a bit, and Steve Gonzalez is one heck of a great guy - what we refer to as real people in my neck of the woods. Nice to see what he looks like.

BTW - my new Avatar is a cross section of an L300.
belated Thanks Uncle Paul. I'm really glad this thread came back to life, I'd have never known  Ditto my friend!
