When I was looking at the port calculator, I was really leaning towards the 3 ports at 7.5 to 8" eash.. but then I started looking at 4 ports...

I'm just so invested into this project already with what I have, I really hate to spend much more now... maybe later I can try a 6"...
 
I can tell everyone this now though.. I sure am stuffing 10 pounds of what ever into a 2 pound bag.....

The wood on the baffle is a lot thinner than what I feel comfortable with trying to fit both drivers on it.. Especially when the woofer weighs as much as it does..

30 hz. At max wattage, 500 watts is what the LE14H-3 are capable of handling, I would go beyond the excursion limits. But I doubt I go much beyond 20 watts which brings my small room up to rock concert levels. As Zilch likes to say they play "stupid loud". Remember I originally had LE14A woof which are only rated for 100 watts and again I wasn't too concerned about over extension. When you are building speakers for sale you have liability issues to worry about. For your personal use if you blow a woofer you just replace it. :D

While I'm no expert on this, Ray and Dave know 10x more than I do, I think you're worrying too much about this. Hopefully I have this right, the longer the port length the deeper they will play. Start at 30 hz and then you can tune them by cutting the tube length. Much easier to cut off what you don't need vs adding what you do need. :yes:

Yes those cabs don't have the best baffles. Double them up with some good ply and you should be set.
 
The lambdas will thermally handle a massive amount of power. 500w is a very conservative rating.

The issue becomes mechanical power handling, which is limited by the 6mm of linear excursion. You are limited to about 120dB with that. (which is still stupid loud, obviously)
 
Well.. after hearing Duff's thoughts....

I'm not worried about too much power.. but I am worried about over excursion.. 6mm ain't much... and no, with Apollo motors, I'm not gonna blow them and buy another.. too damn expensive..

I think I may push for the 30hz... I hope that keeps the mids clean though.. but I can always shorten the tubes ...

I'm learning guys, and ya'll have been a massive help.. and I sure as hell can't wait to hear these...

Got a box full of parts from Parts Express today... So crossovers will be in the works soon. Their 2.7mh inductors are on backorder until Friday though..

I'm still waiting on the BMS drivers though. I had called about them when I got no e-mail back from US Speakers after ordering, and they said they were shipping out last Wednesday from some other place in Ohio or Idaho or somewhere like that... If I don't see them by Wednesday I'll call again..

Now all I need is time on the weekends... and that sucks, cause I get very little weekend time..

Nice!!!!!!! I can't wait to hear these when they are finished. If you need an extra set of hands, you know the number.
 
I'm almost thinking about taking a couple days off work to work on them.. other wise, it's gonna be a month just trying to get a few hours on the weekends..
 
I think you are catching swine flu and need a couple days at home so you don't infect anyone at work.
 
LOL.. I wish it were that easy for me to get out of work. They would rather I be here sick... Someone has to babysit if I'm not here..

Been hitching a ride on this thread. How is it coming? I had to take a break from myu build, got interupted by a nasty set ocf cornwalls.

Dnewman posted a pic of what I was talking about with increasing the volume size on my barzilay's. For my ports, I was going to use the bottom of the extension box to place the ports. Rather than cut holes in the box, I was going to leave the bottom panel of he extension box short, then add an inside panel on the back and effectively make an internal port. I doubt I am making sense, but I hope so.


I gave up on the 3.5^3 ft barzilays and went back toeh 4.5^3 boxes. I have everything I need to finish them now except time. :sigh:

Just keep telling myself a step at a time a day ata atime.

Hate to say it, but no... My problem is no time in the evenings after getting home from work. Then to make matters worse, on the weekends, I have to pull the motorcycles out of the garage so I can get enough space to pull the table saw out to work... and this past weekend it snowed all day Saturday, and Sunday was cold as hell, so I waited till later in the day to shovel the driveway. I couldn't get the bikes out of the garage, so no progress... :tears:

I decided to leave mine as is size wise and just install 3 3" round and 8" long ports. This should get me to right around 30hz on the boxes. I think I should be fine there... if not, wood is cheap, and I can try my PR's, or who knows what else..

I did get the guides mated up with the drivers and have those setting on my JBL's and have been listening to them with that. With the JBL crossover, the horns by far over power the D123 woofers.

I should be getting in the last inductors I need for the crossovers today, so hopefully I can start getting those built.

I'm not looking forward to this weekend either.. supposed to be cold as hell, and another "major" snow storm.. so I may not be able to get the bikes out of the garage again, and it's really starting to piss me off..
 
Now that I have all the parts, how does this look for a crossover layout?

That is going to be sharp. What are you going to mount it on? That is an 8.5x11 sheet of paper right?

Almost have to be a piece of plywood to get it to that size. I imagine you'll condense it down some, but it is still going to be a pretty good size.
 
Yeah, that's an 8.5 x 11... I'll put in on some 5/8" birch ply... I'll probably keep it close to that size.. a little smaller maybe... keep the wires nice and neat too... you think I'm OK with the inductor spacing and placement? I know nothing about that, other than you want them far apart or something like that..
