Similost's Speaker Build - Watch this space for lots of laughs.

Well, here it is guys. My first completed crossover. Just need to mount it to the back board, and get the L-pads connected..

It only took me about 3 hours to put it together. I am at a point now that I'm about 95% sure it's right... My wife asked me if that was a good way to feel about it, and I told here that's the point I"m at and the best I can do. I just haven't built anything from a schematic in a long time.. Even though it is a simple one, I'm still not super sure of my figuring.... Fingers crossed I don't see any smoke ya'll..

Oh, one more little tip I learned... 12 gauge wire is hard as hell to work with. Granted I could have probably used something smaller, but these speakers will be able to take a lot of wattage, might as well give them as big a pipe as I can.

THe back is completed and ready to test..

Of course I'm going to use a crappy amp and a crappy speaker.... just in case..

I just hope it works as good as it looks... I'm about to hook it us and see what happens.. but I'm in no rush... just sitting and thinking about it... triple checking everything.. I really don't wanna smoke an amp..
 
OK.. well DAMN... LF works... no HF...

How do I troubleshoot this? Where would I even begin to look?
 
WA WHOO!!!!!...

Found the problem. I forgot ONE WIRE.. on the negative side.. wasn't a complete circuit...

NOW.. the fun starts.. get a cab together and see what these speakers are gonna be all about..
 
At 500w, they have very low levels of power compression, as well. So, they will be louder and more detailed than most of their competition at that level.

huh.. WOW.. and HHHHhhhmmmm...

Taking the first one for a test drive now....

VERY different sounding than I was imagining... They are going to take some playing with the controls and EQ to get them sounding right to me...

I will say the bass is a LOT better than I had thought it was going to be... I'd say I got the box tuned right...

I've found by playing with the crossover controls, it doesn't take much to put the mids WAY out there in front.. .

I do like when you turn one of them a lot higher, it adjusts the very top . then kep the other control very low, and it takes out the mid shout...

I can easily say this first one blows my JBL's outta the water... Both sound wise, and power wise... Insanely clean sounding too.. The bass is really tight, and like I was saying, a lot more power to it than I was expecting. THey even sound to hit deeper than my JBL's do...

Damn.. now I can't wait to get the second one done.. but an easy 4 more hours of crossover building.. ugh...

Yeah.. no doubt they are monsters.. sound wise too. Just with the one done, the imaging has taken a BIG turn got the better...

There is no doubt there is a very stupid amount of sound available with a bigger amp... and it's pretty amazing the clarity of what volume I can apply now with what I'm running.. Like I said.. these things can easily eat my JBL's as a snack...
 
WOW wow oh WOW..

Listening to LA Woman, the one from the new box set... Been working on tuning and adjusting and really getting it dialed in...

I'm hearing all kinds of stuff this from this one speaker I never heard before on this album...

I expected a big difference in sound from the BMS driver than what I was used to, but these Lambda drivers are blowing me away! Ungodly clean and smooth sounding.
 
LOL... Well Dave.. some times you just get stuck in a rut you know...

Besides, it took me a long time to find the right boxes that my wife would allow me to spend this kind of money on to get into something really fantastic sounding..
 
I don't think you could have stuffed anymore into those boxes. It is pretty amazing how big the drivers are you have in those cabs.
