Sir.Byrd's 2226H based super speaker project

2226H - a notoriously "punchy" midbass driver with power handling capacity galore; they will accept a bit of assist for more low-frequency extension, but augment with distributed subs for the full-Monty world-class performance you've built in spades already....

I'm trying to convince him to build subs. Do you think that a couple of Speakerlab W1208R could keep up (given 10mm Xmax?)

Agree with Newman, in a sealed enclosure.

Though, if you crossed in the Speakerlabs just at the point where the JBLs start to roll off (which would be 45 Hz and below), they might go a long way. Let the JBLs handle the 'punchy bass' from 50 Hz and up, and the Speakerlabs handle only below that.

Also, word to the wise- the Speakerlab 1208s will just flat-out RUMBLE their butts off in a passive radiator alignment. I built just this- I used a 5.8 cubic foot cabinet each, with a 15" passive radiator (IIRC, effective "box frequency" of about 22Hz, as noted by measuring the impedance minimum of the 1208 between the two peaks)... f3 of 22 Hz, and they'd do damn close to 110dB each (maybe more?), without running out of excursion. If they're only having to handle under 50 Hz, that could be devastating...

BTW: If anyone wants to HEAR these Speakerlab W1208Rs in action in the PR-loaded enclosures, they're the subs in Video Room 2 at Anime Weekend Atlanta each year. They've been filling a room of about 28x45 feet, for several years now, without breaking a sweat...

Regards,
Gordon.

Sent you a PM. This is very doable.

I have okayed the sub build with my dad, and a 90% yes from my friend.
Total estimated outlay = $100 per box.

cool looking speakers!

what room are you testing these in? size? you are using the crown 150? what pre?

It isn't really just the precision, which I'm certainly not knocking. It's the reproducability! To be able to knock out dozens or even hundreds that are exactly the same, same fit and finish (other than differing wood grain patterns), wow! Assembly would be fast and furious since everyone would go together the same. You'd have a rythm going that...boy that would be cool.

This is a really cool thread!!!
