Skyfall

I had a roommate who was a haberdasher and he taught me about clothes. I can spot quality a mile away.
That being said, I've spent my career in an informal work environment and rarely need to wear a suit.

I have no comments on Daniel Craig's suit in Skyfall. Haven't seen it yet.

I suspect Bigerik knows about suits too. I mean, look at his avatar. Every time I see someone with a good suit and comment on it, I get a positive response, like we're members of a secret club.

Well, I do have a soft spot for Roger Moore. I drove a car like he drove in The Saint, a white Volvo P-1800, for years. But I never took him for Bond. I'd read all the books by then.

Loved Goldeneye but I seemed to like each Bronson movie a little less afterwards.

I agree with you there. Each time there was more gadgetry, less subtle comedy, and not enough character. I really blame that on the script/screenwriters, and what they felt they wanted to give, vs what a really good story, realistic special effects, and stunts, and some character development for Bond.

Bond needs to be vulnerable in order to be believable. Brosnan is a very good actor able to pull off that range if he'd been given half a chance. I think Casino Royale allowed Craig to have a lot of range in the character, but subsequent stuff is more about his scowl and body more than anything else.

A scene where M and Bond are alone, looking out over Skyfall, and talking about their pasts, their fears, their bonding, despite their differences, and Bond's unflagging support and begrudging respect for M - even a platonic love like a mother he lost early on, her the son she cared for but always wondered if he would come back - 3-5 minutes on a well written scene would have added so much more, damn the pacing.

Story trumps all. The best movies always bear that out. Unfortunately, the Hollywood brass that thinks gauges its output on a young demographic keeps putting out drivel and ultra-violent crap.

I am done with the franchise. I have seen all the Bond movies but I have no interest in seeing the latest installment.

Regarding suits and their importance:

The closest example I can give is when a soldier puts on his dress uniform, and looks in the mirror. If you've never done it, I really can't explain it. It changes you, in a very positive way. You feel...ready. Capable.

Putting on a good suit does the same thing. I was once getting ready for a big deal meeting with the regional vice president, along with another, more experienced guy. I asked him what we were wearing. His answer: "Full armor".

That says it all.

If you wear suits to work, never skimp. Ever.

Reminds me of my younger days. If I went out late partying and ended up going to work tired, burned out or with a hangover, I'd always dress very nicely. People would remark how good/professional I looked, even when I could barely focus on my work.:D:smoke:

I just watched Skyfall last night and was really disappointed with this movie. I watched Casino Royale and loved it so I was looking forward to this one. Most of the movie seemed to be filmed either at night or inside dark places, which I thought made a too dark movie, no beautiful scenery. Also, Daniel Craig didn't seem to have much of a personality in this movie. He didn't talk much, when he did he was serious, monotoned, not saying much. Most of the other characters playing James Bonds had a sense of humor and were more flirty, which I don't think Craig even approached. I also thought he looked haggard, old. (or much older than the last movie he was in).He was boring, the movie was too dark visually, as well as having a more dark theme, I didn't like it.
