what are you opinions in the, how does the technics sl 2000 stack up against a technics sl 1200 mk2? not in a fight but from a performance standpoint, or, possibly in a fight!

No comparison IMO. I have had both and when I upgraded from my 2000 to the 1200MK2 it was night and day. I found that the SL-2000 had a much weaker motor, no quartz lock, more plastic feel and the arm was lacking precision and adjustments. It was basically an entry level direct drive in the Technics lineup. Just my 2 cents of course. :)

vincei,
you have confrimed my suspisions, entry level vs mid fi.

balifly,
another way to evaluate quality can be cost, again it is entry level vs mid fi.

starquest,
i was hoping someone would sugest this as i was considering aquiring a sl2000 to audition my lps prior to putting them on the main system... stylus longevity of the main. thanks for sharing.

The SL-2000 was a early Technics budget Direct Drive with a servo motor. In good shape decent, the later successor budget Technics models in servo DD were better performers and more reliable. The SL-D series being just that.

I don't have an SL1200, but do have an SL1300, several from the SL D and SL Q series and an SL2000. Kent is right. The SL2000 is built a little cheaper, but it still has pretty good specs, and is a decent performer. Mine sounds about as good as my other TTs. My only complaint is that it picks up external vibrations a little easier. I modified mine to play 78s, too. I wouldn't pay a bunch of money for an SL 2000 (I got mine for $10), but they are a good basic TT.
