It’s unfortunate that the vessel that collected the debris can only grab 12-20k lbs at a time.
I don’t think most of that trash in the ocean is from careless litterers. I suspect a big portion of it is from tsunamis, floods, shipping accidents, etc, and not just garbage thrown on the ground. I don’t believe every piece of trash tossed on the ground will find its way to the ocean either. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not “pro littering”, but people are not intentionally at fault for everything. I have seen the debris scattered in hurricanes here that dwarfs actual litter, and I have seen the monumental efforts to clean it up. Maybe I have a little more faith in fellow humans.
