I had the opportunity to listen to a pair of original smaller advents. They sounded like large speakers, with nice deep punchy bass. Highs weren't bad either. Very nice for a 2-way speaker! The owner had recapped and refoamed them. I've been looking for a pair ever since.

I prefer The Smaller Advent Loudspeaker than The Advent Loudspeaker (original w/ masonite ring). There is not the crossover dip and with te tweeter closer to the woofer I do not hear the transitionfrom the woofer to tweeter as I do with the larger original.
I think the value is there for $80. I think the L620 may be a better deal @ that price if in similar condition.

I also own ADS L620s with stands, and paid more like $130 for them. $80 would be a great deal if they are in good condition. I strongly suggest that you audition the Smaller Advents and the L620s. One of them will appeal to you more.
I like acoustic suspension designs, and have Advent, KLH, and ADS speakers to compare. The ADS tweeters sound a lot more refined to me than the older designs. But Henry Kloss sure knew how to get some bottom end out of a sealed box.

I picked those up last week for $70
First generation w/ low serial #'s in excellent condition!
They sound really nice with my Hitachi SR-804.....

smaller advents
My smallers were 5 bucks at a thrift store and the foam flew out of them .
I kept them out of nostalgia and moved 3 or 4 times bringing them with me . I used them to put other poorer speakers on top of .
I never knew you could refoam them and 10 years later was bored on eBay and found the refoam kits . Well . My first refoam job was a nervous endevour but wow ! I have some mkt (polyester) caps coming and wound some air-core inductors .
I havent changed the caps yet but with the home-made coils - wow ! I ordered new coils but got tired of waiting for them . This has been a fantastic journey .

I've owned both the SA and the L620. I really do like the SA, but you will need to refoam them and a recap with electrolytics bypassed with film/foil caps is the way to go. They have a bit of a harsh high end that is not helped by a polypropylene cap. The L620 has rubber surrounds and is a mellower, all around great performing speaker, in fact I prefer it to other ADS speakers I have owned, the two way design when done properly gives very good results. If you want to only get one pair, I'd go with the L620.
