So Cal AudioFest?

We haven't had an AK AudioFest in Southern California in years. I'd like to put one together. I've been exploring venues in the Long Beach area. I've talked to several and at this point the Lakewood VFW post can accommodate it if we can come up with the funds to rent their hall. I'd like to do it in March and their only available date on a weekend is March 7th. That may be too soon.

As I talk with venue folks, they always ask "how many people?" They need to know because the venues have maximum occupancy requirements. I had one venue turn me down flat after seeing the AudioKarma website with it's 400,000 members. What's your guess about attendance.

Is there interest in doing this? Would participants be willing to chip in to cover the cost of the venue? How much lead time do we need to promote the event?

I'm open to suggestions and if I build it, will you come?

It’s on my calendar Pete. I can’t shlepp much, but I can help on the front end. Am I going to get to hear your Braun LV-120’s again?

I wasn't aware of that event, and that's part of the challenge of setting this up. It has to be promoted enough to get attendance. So, I've been re-thinking the timing. March may be too soon. I may push it into April. It will definitely be on a weekend.

@elcoholic, this time I'll bring my G-33000 and blow the doors off the place.

Maybe you and eiraved can put on a little welding with big audio power demo ;)

There’s two closed church schools nearby. Classrooms would be the ticket to isolate systems and run parallel instead of serial. I let you know.

Good idea to push the date out some. Gives more of us the opportunity to attend and witness the demolition, destruction and devastation caused by big G!

I looked at two venues today. The Lakewood Community Center has very reasonable rates. The space they were offering me is a big rectangular room. No atmosphere, I'm guessing around 1,000 sqft. I forgot to look for electrical outlets. I'll have to go back to check that out. They will provide 19 tables arranged anyway we like. The Lakewood American Legion post is also a big open room. There was an event happening in it so I couldn't look around. It's a little bigger but they are also a little more expensive.

I have no idea on how to find out about using them so if you do, please check. Multiple class rooms would isolate the systems but would also isolate the people. Interaction would be harder.

I went back to take another look at the Bloomfield Park meeting room. It's a rectangular room around 1,800 sqft, larger than I first estimated and should accommodate us. It has maybe 8 or 10 electrical outlets around the room so we will need to bring extension cords. They will provide tables and chairs and set them up to our requirements.

If it's still available I'm going to book it for April 19th, a Sunday. It's fairly reasonable but we will need to take up a collection to cover the cost. Monday is a holiday so I may not be able to book it until Tuesday.
