Sodey-pop.

I tend to drink a lot of Mountain Dew. Pretty sure I'm actually addicted to it, which is slightly annoying.

Yep, same here. I like a lot of sodas, but mountain dew seems the most readily supplied. Coke is up there as well.

Every now and then I swear off the stuff and go to drinking water (i'm very particular about water, so it's not all the time). Then I ease back into it, weird thing is, every time mountain dew taste downright bitter, but give it a week and some glasses, and it's right up there and sweet again.

I love trying all kinds of pop/soda. Especially regional brands that aren't available everywhere. One of my favorite finds is Ale8 1, from Kentucky. I always stop and pick up a few when I'm driving through. It's a ginger ale, but with a slightly citrus flavor.

Not that stuff!:D. A lot of folks around here like it, but I don't...I seem to agree with the small segment that names it "kentucky piss water". Then again, I haven't had it in years, so I may be much more keen to it these days.

i've been trying out smaller brands as well. Another rather local variety that recently expanded and is much easier to find is "Ski", try it next time you're down in the area...it's a great lemon lime with far more natural flavors and a bit of a kick.

I call it soda, haven't heard pop too much...heard "soda-pop" (I believe my grandmother calls it that). I wonder if there's a infographic on regional naming of soda:scratch2:

Corn products, along with legumes & rice, are considered kitniyot--foods that are similar enough to chametz grains that they are prohibited. Only Ashkenazic Jews (Eastern European descent) avoid kitniyot. Sephardic Jews are free to consume it.
In plain english, it expands when cooked, so it's on the no-no list

I forgot to mention the one HFCS pop I WILL drink when I can get it...Moxie.

Ohhh Moxie, good stuff. I almost beat up a TSA agent over a 12 pack of that in the Burlington airport messing in my luggage. I'm an IT guy and IT guy crack is diet Mtn. Dew, but I've quit all soda now as it was irritating my bladder. We have a Mr. Coffee iced tea maker and I make and consume large quantities of unsweetened Oolong iced tea.

Used to like Dr. P. but they changed it a few years back and it's not the same. I drink the store brand stuff now, tastes better to me. Only in the summer though.

And some ginger ale, sometimes with a wee bit of whiskey.

Lots of phosphoric acid in most of them, so if it goes flat, it's into the compost for a P boost for the garden.

I was a Mr. Pibb & Sprite drinker, but now my daily cravings for a drink with fizz is Canada Dry Gingerale all the way. Just an addictive flavor in my opinion.

The only pop-like beverage I drink is fruit juice (apple, orange or cranberry) mixed about 1:4 with seltzer water. I think my favorite is cranberry juice with a healthy squeeze of fresh lime and seltzer.

You betcha, Finn!

Apple/Cranberry or the Grape combo is the hit for me when it comes to juice. The Orange, Strawberry, & Banana flavor is also pretty good.

I'm a coffee drinker but when I want a soda, I'll often pick up a 6 pack of coke (in bottles) at the local Mexican grocery. The mexican stuff is made with sugar and I suspect they use an older formula. Maybe it's just more highly carbonated. I dunno, but it gives me that "coke burn" I remember as a kid. There is also a new local bottler that makes a hell of a cherry soda. They use real sugar as well.

The only Mr.Pibb I can find these days is "Mr.pibb Xtra", which I like...can't remember the last time I saw a straight mr.pibb. Used to like Dr.Pepper a lot, but overall, the Pibb xtra just taste better (I think it's a bit lighter on syrup, a bit "cleaner" tasting).

Actual fruit juice is way more healthy that the other crap, so kudos to you guys.

Hey, are you saying my Lemon Lime soda doesn't contain two servings of fruit?:D

Not big into fruit juices (prefer the solid variety, thank you)...but a fridge-chilled (no ice) cup of apple juice is very nice.

Interesting, I seem to be in the middle of everything...free to call it what I want...probably sticking to soda. Very cool graph, thanks...funny how "coke" is a brand and catch-all, must be effective advertising:scratch2:.

My grandmother and her sisters, who lived in West Virginia most of their lives, always wrote "Cokes" on the grocery list. I thought it was just because they actually drank Coke, but maybe not. Seems to be a Southern thing!

Mexican Coke is the "Real Thing" as they used to say. Real sugar, of course...slightly different formula and a different carbonation level. Get a Medio Litro of that nectar chilled down to just this side of freezing and chug away. Mexican Fanta orange? Real sugar again...along with Mexican Sprite. Local Wal-Mart also carries Mexican Pepsi...real sugar again. I even bought a bottle for a test (Heresy! for a Coke lover) and it wasn't all bad.

Then, there's Jarritos...love their limon, mandarino & pina flavors. Local warehouse/salvage store must've cleaned out a Mexican supermarket since they had TONS of Jarritos @ 39 cents a bottle, along with some weird malt drink that's evidently a big deal South Of The Border. They also have a pallet full of TropiCola @ 99 cents a sixpack. Interesting stuff...cola for sure with kind of a subtle banana flavor.

I love pop...especially semi-obscure stuff like Green River, Ski, Yacht Club, Faygo "Rock and Rye" & the like...even tried a bottle of "Sopranos" amaretto pop...tasted just like you'd expect. There's a little bottler in Spring Grove, MN that has been making Spring Grove pop for about a hundred years...a zillion flavors. Used to come in cool glass bottles with a screen-printed label. They evidently had to switch to plastic since people weren't returning the bottles. Schell's Brewery in New Ulm makes 1919 brand root beer...they do a good business in kegs of the stuff for HS grad parties & the like. They also make "Buddy's" orange...a real orangey orange that tastes much like the Mission orange I drank when I was a kid. Stop by your local Walgreen's and pick up a bottle of their "Deerfield Farms" brand black cherry...just like the black cherry you guzzled as a kid...real sugar makes the difference!!

I'm gettin' thirsty.

Bad choice, they said that "pop" was definitely cooler. :D electronjohn, it sounds like you're pretty lucky, having good access to the good stuff. :thmbsp: As late as the early 90s (might still be there), we used to get cases of 16 oz glass bottles, in the wooden case, from a distributor in Erie , PA. You could get full cases of any flavor, if you wanted, but the most common thing was a mixed case, where they put several different flavors in a case. It was only a few blocks from my mom's house, but those wooden cases got surprisingly heavy after about a block. :D

Good access=the internet. Most obscure pops are available online...the shipping's the killer. There's a store about 80 miles away that has a great variety of brands on hand...but I NEVER go in that direction...just happened to be in the area one day and paid a visit. http://old52.com/

Otherwise...if I'm cravin' a Boylan's I need to wait for a trip to Minneapolis and stop at Lund's, Byerly's, Knowlan's or even Cub...they all have a variety of lesser-known pops.

BTW: I wish Stewart's still made their "Draft Cola"...stuff was like cola-flavored pancake syrup. Damn.

by the way, around here (south of Green Bay, in the Fox River Valley) we used to call it POP, but it seems to have shifted to Soda. My question is, does anyone else call a water fountain a BUBBLER??? or it that a valley thing? I don't mean to hijack the thread, just wondering!

I've heard the term "bubbler" for a water fountain...probably related to old ones that had no valve & ran continuously.

Looking at the Old 52 site...I see that Spring Grove has gone back to glass bottles...with a printed plastic label instead of the old screened design. Still, glass is good!

I also forgot about Jelly Belly soda...I get it at Menard's, particularly when 4 packs are on sale for like $2.49. The "Very Cherry" is just that...about the cherriest cherry pop you can find. Their lemon flavor is ultra-refreshing, and the tangerine is delish. Real sugar and natural flavors make the difference again.

I have to hit Menards on the way home. I'll check out the VERY CHERRY!

I had never heard the term "bubbler" until my daughter went off to school at Marquette U. in Milwaukee. All her Wisconsin buddies there use that term.

Hi 33!

Yea, I only come across it now & then too. I think it is stocked in the Minyards Food stores. Walmart carries the Xtra I think. I will take a look the next time I go shopping.

I haven't had any in quite some time now, so I may try some if I can find the original again. It was pretty good, but a bit sweet.
