You are bidding on the top of the line MARANTZ FLAGSHIP Fully Restored Model 2600 Stereo AM/FM Receiver with SCOPE Display and Wood Cabinet . With 300 watts of pure clean sound per channel this 2600 is unmatched in power and performance.

There has never been a 2600 for sale like this one and will most likely never be another one. To find another 2600 this perfect and restored will just not happen. To find a 2500 like this 2600 is possible because I have one.

This 2600 receiver is quite rare and had a total production of less then 1000 units and best guess is only 300 are left. 2600s come up for sale from time to time but not one has been restored to this degree. This is an absolute pristine 2600 and is most likely the best 2600 in the world. Purchased as non-working last year it became apparent during restoration that this unit had less than 1000 total hours before the main power switch failed. This unit was in storage in UTAH most of its life in a very low humidity environment. As you can see from the pictures this unit looks like it was manufactured yesterday not in 1979.

No expense was spared in restoring this 2600. The restoration was done by CHRIS READY and I placed no limit on the restoration process. Chris was told to make this 2600 the best it can be. This is my second 2600 Chris has restored for me and along with the (4) 2500s he has done in the past, I can say for sure he knows what he is doing.

The Faceplate is in almost perfect condition (9.9/10). All the lettering is perfect, corners are perfect, dial glass is perfect and the scope is like brand new.

Cabinet is a Brand New Special Order Reproduction in Cherry. This one piece cabinet is better than the old factory 3 piece cabinets and also looks great at the same time.

A copy of the Owners manual is included with this receiver.

TUNING GYRO WHEEL BEARINGS CLEANED AND RE GREASED WITH MOLY LUBE WHITE GREASE, WHEEL CLEANED THOROUGHLY.

CLEAN AND CYCLE ALL SWITCHES AND CONTROLS WITH DE-OXIT PRODUCTS NUMEROUS TIMES DURING OVERHAUL PROCEDURE.

REPLACE ALL INCANDESCENT LAMPS WITH PROTECTED LEDS.

THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF CAPACITORS WERE USED AND WERE PLACED IN INTENDED SPOTS:

NICHICON—FG (FINE GOLD) KZ (MUSE AUDIO)

FW (AUDIO) KW (AUDIO) PW (HIGH TEMP)

KT (HIGH TEMP AUDIO)

CAPACITORS WERE COMPLETELY UPGRADED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:

AMPLIFIER, SOFT START CIRCUIT, SPEAKER PROTECTION RELAY CIRCUIT, PRE AMPLIFIER, EQUALIZATION, PHONO, POWER SUPPLY, TONE CONTROL SECTION, FM/AM TUNER, QUARTZ LOCK CIRCUIT, FM MUTING CIRCUIT.

THE FIVE REGULATOR TRANSITORS ON THE POWER SUPPLY THAT FEED VOLTAGE TO THE PRE AMPLIFIER, FM/AM SECTIONS WERE REPLACED WITH BETTER TYPES THAT HANDLE STESS BETTER.

AMPLIFIERS FOUR DRIVER TRANSISTORS UPGRADED TO BETTER QUALITY.

REBUILT THE MAIN POWER SWITCH.

REPLACED THE SOFT START FUJITSU RELAY WITH BRAND NEW OLD STOCK REPLACEMENT.

SPEAKER RELAY WAS REPLACED WITH OMRON 48VDC TYPE.

(26) CERAMIC AND FILM CAPACITORS ON THE POWER SUPPLY WERE UPGRADED TO LOW TOLERANCE POLYPROPYLENE AND POLYESTHER TYPES FOR IMPROVED AUDIO REPRESENTATION.

ALL 8 FUSES WERE REPLACED WITH BRAND NEW.

THE AMPLIFIER’S TUNNEL HEAT SINK WAS COMPLETELY TORN DOWN, ALL 16 OUTPUT TRANSISTORS TESTED AND CLEANED. THE TUNNEL HEATSINK WAS WASHED, ALL SMALL SECONDARY FINNED HEAT SINKS WERE METICULOUSLY CLEANED AND RESURFACED. OUTPUTS RE MOUNTED WITH THERMALLOY INSULATORS BETWEEN FINNED SINK AND OUTPUT AND HIGH END HEAT SINK GREASE APPLIED BETWEEN FINNED SINK AND MAIN HEAT SINK. THERMISTORS CLEANED, TESTED, RESURFACED AND RE MOUNTED TO HEAT SINK WITH NEW QUALITY HEAT SINK GREASE.

THE AMPLIFIERS COOLING FAN WAS COMPLETELY TAKEN APART, WASHED AND BOTH BEARINGS CHEMICALLY WASHED AND PACKED WITH MOLY LUBE GREASE—MOTOR COIL TESTED. FAN RUNS SMOOTH AND QUIET LIKE NEW.

HEAT SENSING THERMISTORS FOR FAN OPERATION HEAT TESTED AND CONFIRMED WITHIN SPEC. WITH THERMOCOUPLE PROBE AND HEAT GUN.

ALL BOARDS COMPLETELY HAND RE SOLDERED.

SCOPE ADJUSTED TO MANUFACTURER’S SPECIFICATIONS. THE SCOPE OPERATES LIKE NEW AND DIALED IN PERFECT.

TOP AND BOTTOM COVER WASHED WITH ANTI-BACTERIAL SOAP AND WATER.

COMPLETE FM ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED FOR OPTIMUM RECEPTION.

RECEIVER BURNED IN FOR 30+ HOURS, ALL MODES TESTED

OUTPUT MEASURED WITH 8 OHM LOAD AND 1000HZ SINE WAVE—325 WATTS PER CHANNEL OBSERVED PRE-CLIPPING/DISTORTION.

That is the "ultimate" Marantz receiver, and it seems to have had an unusually thorough rebuild, making it one of the "ultimate" Marantz purchases. Prices on TOTL gear like this have been rising. Not surprising it fetched a very high price.

That said, when you think about how much money that really is, and what else could be bought with it, the price level is remarkable. Supply and demand is doing some funny things with price levels, at least for the better gear still out there.

Auctions like this make me very glad that I bought what I did, when I did... and make me wish I'd bought even more! It isn't going to get any easier to assemble any decent collection of "better" gear, and soon (if it isn't there already), a really top-flight collection of vintage gear will be like a collection of good vintage cars: something only possible for the well-heeled few!

A dealer gave me a heads-up just today that he has a Marantz 2385 coming in soon, which he thought I'd want. I have one already, and thought his price was a little on the high side, but seeing this auction, plus noticing what a few pieces I have sitting in storage are now being priced at in the shops, I wonder if I shouldn't be grabbing it as "an investment"?! :headscrat

At 80 dB, no. When going hard, the 2600 does have 400 watt rating (real FTC) into 4 ohm so it is much less likely to compress.
