I am following the Sony TA 2000F posts. I have the 2000F models and also the original TA2000. I would like to hear opinions on who has one of these compared to other pres of the same era or more modern. Thanks.

I used to have a sony TA-2000F. Sometimes i regret having sold it. It is an extremely well built and very versatile preamp. Mine was a little noisy until I decided to sell it and deoxited the controls. Cleaned everything up really nicely. I really like the multiple cartridge adjustments, the ability to match outputs on all inputs via pots in the back, and the mini VU meters. I compared it to a Bose 4401, and used it with my 1801 and ESs AMT 1aM towers while the 4401 was being restored.

I consider it to be an exceptional preamp and I should have kept it. I think it is a better preamp than my spare McIntosh c24, and at par with the c26 and 4401 preamps that I'm currently using, except that the Sony is actually more versatile, and therefore perfect as a spare unit.

Used the 2000F/ 3200 combo, along with a ST-5000F tuner, for some 5 years. First powered a pair of Polk SDA IIs and presently Audio Physic Tempos (both 4 ohm speakers) without a hitch, all the while sounding magnificent. Have recently replaced them with a Yamaha B-2/C-50 combo and the same tuner. To my mind and ear the B-2 has a bit more musicality and a slightly better soundstage, but it's not a huge difference. Plan on having the 2000F and the 3200 serviced and upgraded. Not that they sounded like they needed it but, hey, they're 40 years old.

Got them during the housing recession and they have about doubled in price since then. Really tremendous, top of the line Sony gear. The build quality simply doesn't get much better. Still tend to be a bit cheaper than a lot of classic gear likely not as good. Probably the result of having sold thousands of these units and the fact that not too many people got hip to TOTL Sony gear.

Yes, and I forgot to mention the build quality. When I was deoxiting the controls, I took nudie pictures for my ad, and it was made really well. Sony really paid attention to how the whole unit went together. Also, if I remember correctly, the tone controls are actual switches rather than variable controls. They feel like the cheaper controls that have a ball bearing to create a stop at equidistant points, but they are actually separate cap/resister combos at each stop. Very impressive build quality. Comparable to the best I have seen.

Thank the attention of friends. I changed all capacitors, and after a period of burning, the sound was opened with great sound and very detailed stage. After more than 40 years of excellent service a much needed rejuvenation. I highly recommend it a total recap. Before the sound seemed without much definition and authority.

Answer from Bourdel : You're lucky. I need to find out this model for supply my music system. Where are thy available ?

I have the 3200F amplifier that I recapped about a year ago. Even with burnt resistors and some not so great earlier repairs it still sounded good before I went through it. Very well built. I've been looking for the pre but prices are just too high right now. I'm not a Sony fan but the earlier stuff is great!

I have a folder with pics of various pieces that have caught my eye over the years and that's near the top of the list. If I ever come across one it's a no-brainer purchase for me.

Thank you Lavane. I'm not looking for the correspondant Sony amplifier but for the Pre-amplifier only, the TA 2000F .TIts sound looks like cristal, a bit metallic. This préamp must supply my Luxman amplifiers that I've repaired and arranged with a super "tuning" improvement. All that material to be incorporated within my holophonic 3D- 12 channel system (I've created in 1984 in France with the impulse from CNRS of Marseilles°. Assumed that I could find a correct price, then I could be very happy. Thank you. c.B.

The entire line of equipment associated with the 2000F and 3200F including the active crossover, selector, and small Cube amps for remote speakers were ahead of their time.

Lavane, Well, if I have no chance to find the preamp TA2000F alone (which is too exhaustive, in my point of view), then I will fabricate the input only, such the Kaneda preamp (with just a few transistors...and NO signal capacitors)°
C.B.

I love that Sony gear, have a STR -6055 playing whale sounds up.at the museum ( closed for the winter). The 2000f is a great preamp. When I worked in Manhattan in the 60's (retired in 2000) Sony had a store on 5th Avenue with all their gear. LOVED that place! My co-worker had the TA2000 preamp, man you could drool over that stuff!
