Sound Dynamics Owners...Unite!!

poppachubby

Boo Yaka! Boo Yaka!
Hey Everyone. I own a pair of 1200 SMT which I absolutely love. I'm sure anyone who owns a pair of SD's knows, there is limited info/places on the net for us.

I am proposing we use this thread as a headquarters for any owners of Sound Dynamics speakers, old or new.

First priority would be just to chat and show off our speakers. Secondly, as parts are diminishing, we can help each other out with that, and any other fixes/repairs.

I would hope when it's all said and done we could have a definitive place for people to come and learn, or ask questions.

This is a lofty goal indeed. Either it works really well, or completely busts. Most Sound Dynamics owners I speak to LOVE their gears, and are passionate about them.

I own a pair of 1200 SMT. Love em to death. 12" woofer, 12" passive radiator and a spun aluminum horn tweeter.

With the right amplification, these speakers really do sing. Fun and lively with a very realistic sounding high end. Horns sound amazing.

Right now I am using mine with a Pioneer SX-650. Sources are my Soundblaster Audigy Platinum which also has a Technics SL-Q2 inputted into it's analog jacks. Wonderfully open and airy sound, dynamic indeed!

World's largest computer speakers? Possibly...

My first love

I bought a pair way back when there wasn't cd's or any real digital crap and I loved them . Unfortunetly the thief loved them more. But they did bring me into the relm of good sound and I haven't looked back. All my gear is vintage and imho you can't beat the vintage sound.:D

Geez, Poppa, I would throw my hat in the ring, but you keep refusing to sell those 12s to me :D

Y'know, I just fell back in love with this pair. I figured AK would have a wack of owners. There's a great ADS thread here, I thought we could do something like that.

Perhaps I should be more patient. I'm going to take these into Sound Savers in Sarnia to have the inputs replaced. They really are much more than a "party" speaker, although modeled from CV's. Speaking of party though, they are super fun.

Challenger, if I ever get rid of them, consider them yours. I also have the original grills in mint condition, but who could cover these beauties up?

I have two pair of the tweeters I'm going to use for something personal down the road. Does this count as ownership? The end result is not going to be a Sound Dynamics product but nevertheless...

There's some guy in Ontario who has a bookshelf set on CAM. I don't know all the model numbers of most pairs of speakers, SD included, I just know what makes them tick.

Because my computer speakers are bigger.:D

OK cool. Sorry, just thought you were going to give me some lecture regarding placement or some nonsense.

My god man! You've got the LaScala's on comp duty don't you? No....noooooooo! Too big!! It can't be possible!!!!

Sound Dynamics RT3: A great pair of bookself speakers. Worth a million dollars! Definitely a keeper. Sounds like heaven with vintage Sony or tube.

Don't own any SD's.However a pair of 12s' and a SX780 are directly responsible and the reason i'm typing right now.....30 years later.

So i think that counts.
cheers

Have 2 pair hanging around, 15s and 10s. Very impressive. Heres a shot of my 15s with a Dynaco A35 sitting on top (kinda different but thats my main stack, but can also be used independantly). http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/album.php?albumid=470&pictureid=4911 10s is pretty much the same thing except (well yah..the size of the wooger) they are ported with a tube through the front, where the 15 is ported out of the bottom (the stands are built in for that reason). Loves em, wouldnt consider trading them.

Alright, a bit of progress. bobaloniny I forgot about your 10s. Those tweeters are so photogenic aren't they? Your pair look minty, I would love to hear them.

A mate of mine has the old 1000SMT with a 10 in it. Great sound, very fast and tight bass.

Sound Dynamics 1200 SMT Owner's Manual

Enlarged in your Window's picture viewer, it's legible.
