Are you sure there was a 1500SMT? I do not recall seeing them when looking at the literature when I bought my 1000's. I only seem to recall the 1000 and 1200's. If there were some could you show a pic of them as that would be real neat!!!

Yes man, for sure there was. 10, 12 and 15. I chatted with a dealer in BC sometime ago who carried them years ago. Back then, they put a 15 into each series. The "S", Concert Monitor, SMT, etc.

Have a pair of the little 6S speakers, with the aluminum waveguide. They live in the closet, but I'll use them again one day. Made a promise to myself that I'd veneer them with some nice wood one day; they were too nice to be covered in semi-nasty vinyl.

I own a pair of 1200 SMT. Love em to death. 12" woofer, 12" passive radiator and a spun aluminum horn tweeter.

With the right amplification, these speakers really do sing. Fun and lively with a very realistic sounding high end. Horns sound amazing.

Right now I am using mine with a Pioneer SX-650. Sources are my Soundblaster Audigy Platinum which also has a Technics SL-Q2 inputted into it's analog jacks. Wonderfully open and airy sound, dynamic indeed!

that was my first speaker I bought brand new.It took me 3 months to save up so I hit every hifi shop in town and took a pair just like yours home in the end.When I got them home I coudn't believe that "old radio" I got from my uncle sounded like I was there.Wish I still had them.

I'd like to join the club with a Pair of SD-20S in very good condition that I picked up at a salvation army for $50, and today I snagged a pair of the R-616 towers that sound just fantastic for the $40 I paid!

Now I need to shuffle some stuff around and get stuff set up better in my room.
I'll put some pictures up once I get my setup arranged a bit more permanently.

I have a set of rts-7b, i really like them but they don't see nearly enough use around here for me to justify keeping them. Great bass from 2-5" drivers per cabinet, and the highs are good as well.

I've owned a piar of 15s for about 30 years. I refoamed the woofers 2 years ago and currently using them in my basement system as subwoofers driven by a 40w/ch NAD receiver. These things are amazing, they produce killer bass as subs with only 40W!
I recently picked up a pair of RTS-7 for $40 and love em! Not for bass so much but they do great as my front speakers, sitting on top of the 15s. They have amazing imaging.
I'll never part with my 15s pair!

I have had the cm 500's & 700's, and a pair of 10's. I still have the cm 100's hooked to my sansui 331 and they sound great.

I recently got a pair of Sound Dynamics 15S and couldn't be happier. The original woofers are out awaiting the re-foam kits, and in their place is a pair of Eminence Pro-Beta 15As which according to the original owner, popped right in, even the screw holes lined up perfectly.

It is going to be interesting to compare the originals to the Eminence in about a month's time.

The fellow who sold me these didn't want to let them go, but his wife was tired of looking at them and so....

In fact, she drove about 12 hours round-trip from Kitchener to deliver them to me! I was very grateful, as I had come close to owning a pair a few times, but the distance was just too much.

I've wanted these since around 1980 when I was learning to drum. My drum teacher owned a pair of these with a Kenwood KA-501 integrated (yes, I own one now), a KT-615 tuner, and a KD-4100 turntable. I loved going to learn more drumming, but it was also a chance to see and hear my drum teacher's stereo. Awesome! Later my older brother's friend worked at Pro Audio & Video in Sudbury and picked up a pair. I found excuses to "visit" him, and listen to the speakers!

I am currently powering the 15S with a Topping TP22 T-Amp and couldn't be happier. DH Labs T14 speaker cables seem to match really well, and my sources are a Denon DVD-2910/Emotiva XDA-1 combo, and a Realistic LAB-440/Nagaoka MP11 Boron, using the KA-501 as phono stage. Jungson ICs from the Emotiva to the TP22, and Synapse ICs and digital coax cables for all other connections.

My friend Mike who lives in Sudbury owns two pairs of the 15S, along with the 120S, 1200 SMTs, and several others such as the 12S, 10S, 6S, Concert Monitor series etc...

An interesting note is that Sound Dynamics made two versions of the 15S, one version (the one I own) having the wider, stubbier look, with the 20" wide baffle and 17" deep cabinet. The other version is taller and more narrow and deeper. Does anyone know which version is newer, and whether one sounds better than the other?

My only experience with Sound Dynamics is with their THS-12. Bought brand new from Custom Audio back around 1996. Been a great sub over the years!

Speaking of red surrounds, anyone have any luck finding red surrounds with a flat attached inner edge? I have a set of Concert Monitor 500 woofers that I would like to keep as original as possible. Thanks

Well, it took awhile to get around to it, but I replaced the foam surrounds on the original 15S drivers and put them back in. The Eminence Pro Beta 15As will go in my Son's Cerwin Vega U-351s.

I was beginning to wonder if the original drivers would be as good as the newer Eminence drivers. No need to worry, the SD original drivers sound better in every way, and what was already a good sounding pair of speakers has now been elevated to excellent.

I also restored a pair of vintage Sony SS-U70 three way speakers with ribbon tweeter and Nastran woofer, and listened to those for awhile when working on the SD's surrounds and putting a clear coat on them.

The Sonys do sound really nice. Balanced, warm, and lots of detail retrieval. They image better than the SDs and have a lot of depth in the soundstage - also better than the SDs. But us fans of the bigger Sound Dynamics speakers know that it isn't for their imaging or depth that we love them so much (although they do a better job than most speakers this big have a right to), but rather because of the effortlessness, the alive-ness, and yes, the dynamics of these speakers. They just beg to be turned up if you're in the mood, and you won't regret it the next morning!

I wanted to mention that I also used a liberal amount of contact cleaner on the adjustment pots and that made a noticeable and worthwhile improvement - cost effective to boot!

So I have them playing some accoustic jazz right now and they sound, well, you know

I heard some of the first Sound Dynamic's I believe at a local retailler in 1982. The same time I bought My Energy Pro-22 Monitor's from the same company. They were also demonstrating some Cerwin Vega's. If I recall the SD's was a nice ballance between a Rock Speaker, and their Pro-22 counter Parts with a somewhat smoother sound overall than the CV's.

When you say "horn loaded" tweeter, do you mean the 1" phenolic orange dome tweeter with the aluminum flange? If so, then the woofer would be either 6.5" or 10" and be the 6S or 10S.

If it isn't that tweeter then I woudn't know. Later series?

Hi Allen, yes that is the tweeter in question. I wanted to know if anyone has a pair of operational speakers in that model range. Perhaps there is an 8S model too.

Anybody make out the cap value on this 6S x-over?
