Your modded and @elcoholic's original DQ-10's would be an interesting comparison. @toddalin has a switcher that would likely be really useful for such a setup.

I've got a nice dual-mono QSC 3350 power amp with 200 / 300 watts (@ 8 and 4 ohms) that I'll be glad to provide, if needed. Otherwise, I have a Parasound HCA-1000 (125 / 200 watts) that's also available. I also have a couple active crossovers we can use, if any of these allow for bi-amping. Tubes for the highs and mids with SS for the bass is easily accomplished, if we want to try that.

I would love to try that if they were wired for bi-amping. That QSC would do nicely. I run them on Emotiva XPA-1L 250/500 monoblocks that I don’t really want to move.

Yup, still have it and battery is still good in it. Does need a little attention. I will make arrangements with you to swing it on by toi you Toddlin.
 
Ok, dropped off the switcher to Toddalin and he will get it tip top. For those that don’t know, it is a brilliant design. It holds an 8ohm load on the amp not being listened to. So, we can keep two tube amps hot and switch back and forth at will while playing whatever source we choose. Real time switching with optimal warm up time on both. It also switches speakers in real time as well. Anyway, this will be great for unbiased blind testing. Pretty cool Toddalin.

That said, do we have a venue or host? Didn’t @trackball02 say he could host?
 
Sounds interesting. I might join up with you fellows, although I won't be lugging that behemoth MC2500 this time! Maybe @Jeff T can join us and bring another of his tube amp creations.
 
I recently purchased one of the cheap TPA3255 chip amps (and am using it with a Tube01 pre), mostly just to find out if they are as good as reported. So far, it's quite impressive, especially for $60 and will likely be used in my desktop system. I'll probably bring that amp/preamp combo to whatever we arrange for a get-together. If anyone is thinking of trying one of these chip amps, the AIYIMA A07 is on sale for $65 with a $15 off coupon on Amazon today.
 
I had the SMSL SA300 chip amp about 3 years ago and was impressed by it. I'd be interested in seeing if these amps have improved over time.

Had means no longer have, I suppose. It'd be fun to compare a couple of these amps with different chips, if anybody has one to bring. I'm just bummed to not have the big Mac present, though I know what you mean about it though, after helping load it back into your vehicle! ;)

A couple 'topics' that appear to at least have some interest:
  • Open-baffle / non-box speakers
  • Chip amps
  • Tubes amps have been mentioned, and what would an AK meet-up be without these!
  • Sources - I'll add this, as they will be required. We can do analog or digital; a decent wi-fi connection will be needed / useful
  • Subwoofers - I'd be interested in hearing any that are really impressive, home-built, etc

At the last one, we had Tim demoing his ultrasonic record cleaner and Rob (I believe) doing some tube testing. Some activity things like this would be great, too, if anyone has thoughts, offers, or requests.
 
Switcher is fixed. A control wire had come unsoldered and a relay had a cold solder joint. A couple of the switches need to be flipped a bunch of times to remove internal corrosion and lower their resistance...., or be replaced. It may not matter when current is running through them. We'll see about that during testing.

Yeah, I sold the chip amp as it wasn't going to replace anything I currently use. A bad back is what's keeping the MC2500 amp where it is, LOL!
I may consider bringing my 4' tall SVS cylinder sub if that's of any interest.

I understand about the back for sure! That SVS would be of interest, at least to me! I almost built a 'clone' of it when I built my current sub.
 
I am going to prepare a user manual. What "comparisons" would people like to see addressed (e.g., 1 amp with 2 different sets of speakers, two amps with 1 set of speakers, two amps with 2 different speakers, all with/without level matching, different line level effects (e.g., different eq units), etc.?

Do we have a venue yet? Depending on distance I may be able to bring some big SS power.
