Perhaps I wasn't being clear enough myself.

The bit of sparkle/clarity I heard was subtle but I do hear it no matter the source. I guess "did" hear it is a better description now as I have gotten used to that now.

It is the "forward projection" that I only hear with certain songs. With some, the sound seems to come from a point maybe a foot or more in front of the baffles. With others it comes from the plane of the baffles. This is something I never heard/noticed before with my old cables -KnuKoncepts Kord Ultra Flex in 12ga.-

Looks like the same stuff. I saw that at one time and then completely forgot about it before I found the other source for the cable. But the GR kit does call out for inserting cotton rope. I did not do that although I could go back and retrofit it should I get curious.

Wow, one same thread with both cable and MP3 discussion. IMO, pretty tough to properly evaluate cable changes while listening to MP3 files.
 
I personally don't think MP3's should be used for such, but as long as folks don't argue, I'm fine with it.

Interesting observation last week - I have "Toys In The Attic" on every format there is. High rez, vinyl, etc. I also picked up a hard to find Super Bit Mapping copy on gold cd.

Imagine my surprise when the Hi Rez file could not TOUCH the Super Bit Cd through my old Denon CDP through Sony MD (to use the better DAC).

It wasn't even close.
 
Spent nearly 60 bucks on e-pay for a Super Bit Mapping version of Willie Nelson's amazing, classic, "Stardust".

I also have the high res files on this one, and it sounds good, but let's see if Sony's neat little tricks work as well as "Toys In The Attic".

Also, it will arrive Saturday, and I plan on using this copy to seriously analyze the latest cables I got, which have sat idle for months.

Tim - what you are describing is the principal upon which AudioQuest was founded. As a former rep for the brand, the story began with the kind of wire used to transmit intelligible speech from NY to Chicago via phone.

I certainly tried rep samples of it BITD but it's been far too long to recollect details. We had a few devoted dealers but the commission on it was so insignificant we didn't spend much time peddling it.

I have a copy of those Madonna cds with Qsound. Always struck me as quality.

I really don't know, but when I found that copy (minus sleeve and booklet) of Toys In The Attic, saw the gold disc, I just grabbed it. All cds are a buck at my local Half Price bookstore, and I once scored an unopened copy of Bill Evans "Portrait In Jazz" on that odd, flip-up cd holding thing, gold disc. Those go for pretty good coin.

Anyway, I cannot say enough about how good that Toys copy is.

Well, I guess it was too good to be true. The Infinity died on me :bye: . After a very short ownership that included 3 break-ins, one of them an attempted theft, another one an actual theft (recovered that same day) two stays in the body shop repairing the damage the break ins and theft caused, the car just up and died on me at a stop light. The dash gave me a big red warning "Low Oil Pressure, Stop Immediately", a few seconds later the engine shut down, never to turn again. Couldn't get either of the OBDII scanners I own to connect, my mechanic could not find the cause of the problem, and listing it for a song on CL just brought vultures who couldn't be bothered to read the ad that said it didn't run. Most of them wanted me to spend my money on reports they wanted before they would look at the car. The VIN was on the add and they could have pulled the reports themselves. My wife and I got fed up with that crap and donated it to charity. They towed it away this morning.

The search for a replacement took 2 weeks. This time I automatically excluded the "luxury" marks like Luxus, Acura, Infinity, Audi etc, and went looking for something that did not announce itself as "hey, I'm a nice car" with it's outside badging. I finally landed on a Mazda 3 (2014). It was one with the "larger" engine (2.5 l vs standard 2.0 l) and upgraded interior. I was paranoid enough to check to see if the trim level is shown on the exterior badging. Googe said it wasn't, just the "M" emblem, the name Mazda and the word SkyActive for the engine, which they all have cause all their engines are part of that line. I have had it a week now. It handles very nicely, but it just is not the same.

I guess for really nice things I'll have to limit myself to my MacIntosh and give up on really nice cars.
