Can anybody ID these?

They are from a local CL ad, and I'm trying to decide whether it might be worth the small asking price.

Thanks in advance. :)

Sorry can't help you ID 'em but if the asking price is small, I'd say go for it regardless of make. Those bottom drivers are HUGE!

I've seen those subs somewhere before, but cannot for the life of me remember what brand they are. Look like they're worth a listen at the very least.

I'm spying some Peavey gear in the background there too.. so I would bet the guy buys at least half way decent equipment. They look like 15" subs, and real wood veneer, so I can't see you would go wrong...

HOWEVER, you have tipped your hand, and I hope you had the first mail in, and are willing to pay more...

The first rule of CL and AK.. DO NOT post anything about something on CL here, until you have said item in hand.. LOTS of people (non members) read this forum trying to scrape up good deals..

Well, if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. I'm currently overflowing with vintage JBL bookshelf speakers anyway. Losing a potential deal is probably a blessing in disguise. :)

My guess is Yamaha bookshelves sitting on top of some subwoofers. Dude likes him some bass.

Is it my imagination or is the port on the rightmost sub busticated?

those are Realistic 12" passive subwoofers, I'm pretty sure. i'll have to tip mine over to see if they have that octagon. if so, they're decent enough, but they'd have to match the efficiency of whatever you're using them with.

Definately. The high pass caps are almost useless. Around 200Hz @ 8 ohms. Will make good subs if powered by a plate amp (or two) ;) to where you can set the crossover frequency, phase and such. However, they don't do much below 40Hz, but offer very good dynamics.

Sounds like they would be better paired with a set of Satellites.

I do like twin subs. Til you get to 35 or so, too much smearing trying to monoize a stereo signal. For most of below 200 it really is directional. And less problems with room placement with a pair.

I think the Yamaha speakers are model NS-A636A---decent bookshelf speakers. I have a pair in the basement and paid $10 for them.
