There's plenty of distortion being cause by your amp, and speakers at less than a watt.Distortion is caused by two simple factors--either the amplifier is being driven beyond its capabilities, or the speaker is being driven beyond its capabilities--that's it--pretty basic. Sure, there are lots of different factors involved on both sides of the equation, but those are the two basic causes of distortion.

Any device in the audio chain that alters the waveform between input and output is a cause of distortion, speakers are the biggest offenders with some adding up to 10% to the equation. If you want to except tone amplifiers, loudness contours and EQ as distortion i can agree with that. But, pretty much every piece of equipment you have between your source media and your ears is contributing some degree of distortion. The good stuff keeps it to the most practical minimum.
Your understanding is incorrect. There are far more speakers damaged from people turning the volume up too far on their low or medium powered amp, AVR or receiver causing clipped signals to be sent to the speakers. Take your gear for example. You are far more likely to damage your speakers with your receiver than you would be with a 600 wpc amp. It's extremely rare to have speaker damage from a high powered amp.

Did we educate him or show him what many already think, that this site is full of audio elitis....Will he come back again? Sometimes we are really full of ourselves.

This is some of the most humorous stuff I think I have ever heard and I have been into audio for more than 50 years.
Signal to noise ratio 'enabling' speaker sensitivity??? A '100 amp receiver'? Does it double as a welder?

Because what you say makes no sense. If what you say is true my system would have broken down years ago. Then the amount of noise in a signal path has everything to do with how effectively speakers operate. Just because a group of people think something to be true doesn't mean that they are informed correctly. Just like thinking that a 600 watt amp won't blow out a pair of 400 watt speakers, a person would be changing out fuses like crazy. How do I know this, cause I have an MX-1000 so I know very well that you have no credibility. Your comment about an 100 watt amp receiver tells me you uses a low watt high distortion type A amp/receiver probably produced in the seventies and you all have the same aptitude about distortion. My receiver puts out 168 watts per channel and the sound has been compared to the Luxman R-117......your not even in the same league I am in. You don't have the understanding of all types of equipment and hold on to concepts of what people were putting in stereo magazines decades ago. You probably think that distortion makes your speakers sound better cause you have a type A amp. There is a reason why people don't refer to technical specifications and it's because they don't see the relationship in how signal to noise ratio is used to match up equipment of the same S/N ratio. You seem to be one of the monkey see....monkey do people on this site.

You are quite correct when you say I'm not even in the same league as you are. I have no idea what league you are in but I do know that I'm very glad I'm not in it.
So, again, I ask you to explain, how is it that noise bears on how speakers operate? If that is indeed what you are saying.
Your really asking on how noise effects speaker operation ? Then you must not understand the relationship between the amp and the crossover in a speaker....or how sensitive speakers require less signal to operate.

You do realize that regardless of the maximum output power of an amplifier, you still have full control over the output (typically via the volume knob), right? Just like how, even in a fast car, you still have full control over your speed. So yeah, if you have a 600 watt amp and you can't help yourself from maxing the volume control for no reason, changing fuses would be the least of your worry... But thankfully that's not how people do things in the real world. My bridged Yamaha P2200/P2201 amps are good for ~700watts per channel @8ohms. The speakers I have them hooked to are rated for 300-400watts. Somehow I have managed to not harm any of them. Guess I'm just lucky?
