Minimus 7s, KRK Monitors, Audio Engine, Boston Acoustics A40, Tannoy Reveal, etc. There are so many that would be suitable. I use a pair of Polk Monitor 10s and a subwoofer for my home office rig, but that doesn't really fit on a desktop.

If you don't mind hunting down flea-market, and garage-sale finds, you can get some of those little Boston "patio" speakers fairly inexpensively. I just snagged some Boston CR-6's for $15. Killer little speakers. I think someone in this forum had some for sale recently also. (You may need to be a member to see them. Might have been in "Barter Town".)

I don't know the output of your amp, but I have a set of Canton Plus S speakers with a Plus C subwoofer. The Plus S's are exactly the same size as Minimus 7's. The 12" sub is passive, with a built in crossover and high pass of around 120hz ( I think) for the satellites. The Plus S's alone, without the sub, sound pretty good by themselves too.
They do like at least 100 watts channel and are 4 ohms, so make sure your amp can handle the impedance.
I paid around 100 bucks for them, they were much, much more when new in the 80's. Speaking of 80's, they have rubber surrounds, so foam rot is not an issue.
Some say they sound a little bright, but it comes down to synergy between the amp and the speakers.
They are somewhat rare in the U.S., but if you happen to come across a pair at a fair price, give them an audition. You may love what you hear.
I am driving mine with a Harman Kardon PM665 integrated amp that puts ouf 150w/ch into 4 ohms. It sounds awesome and can really jam.

I am not sure about new speakers. Klipsch makes a pretty nice computer speaker system, the Promedia 2.1. It is self powered though, and is probably one of the best, if not the best, dedicated computer systems on the market. White plastic crap rules the computer speaker market.

If you're mind is set on new, and no more then $150, you will have to just get out there and look. I think most of us tend to gravitate towards the older stuff, since it was many times more expensive when new. Bang for the buck rules with vintage and semi-vintage. Of course, a lot of it needs TLC to perform as new, but it's still money ahead. I think your choices will be very limited if you're looking for bargain high-end that is shiny and new. You may get lucky, as I did with my Cantons.
Been running a Cambridge Soundworks 3 piece set up for years, and someone went through lots of trouble getting this midrange right. Could easily listen to these all day long, and sometimes do. Not sure the attraction on this forum for the RS Minimus 7's, as have some in my bedroom wake up system, and fine for that purpose.

Minimus 7's aren't new speakers, but they're all over the place, especially eBay. No personal experience with them, but I've heard such good things that I don't know why I don't have a pair yet. For new speakers, check out the Infinity Primus line, as well as Polk Monitor 30's and Insignia NS-B2111.
