Speakers on R.I. Craigslist, USA made Sony?

Certainly possible. At various points in the past, Japanese massmarket companies have had speakers made in the US. For example, in the late-1970s, the economic situation in the US (and the energy crisis' aftermath) made it prohibitively expensive to ship speakers from Asia to the US. Pioneer, for example, launched a US-made "Project" line of speakers... which were actually pretty decent. I have a pair of the US Pioneer Project 100A three-ways, and rather like them. Note the odd driver complement: cone tweeter and dome MR.
Hmm. This is an old thread but I do have a set of US made Sony speakers. Mine are the SS-TX7S bookshelf/center speakers. I also know the same range had floorstanders as well. Mine have fiber glass cones, gold plated binding posts and look like a quality peice of kit. They Sound very neutral with reserved highs and a nice

That layout looks like the SS-U1600. If so, it had a dome tweeter that matched the midrange coloring with the woofer color not far behind. They do have a made in USA tag on them. Quite possibly they were built in NY/LI back in the Superscope days. There were certainly the resources there for speaker production in the northeast then. I had a set of SS-U1600's and they were built like any Fisher, KLH, Advent, AR, etc.
