I will never sell the speakers my daddy gave me (yes daddy, along with mommy, I may be 19 but I can still say it!) just cuz he use to use em all the time and the speakers will carry on.
The speakers that seem to stick around for the longest time are the Vandersteen 2ce's - they are just a good all round speaker that does alot of things right - The sound especially improves with tubes (-:
My Altec Stonehenge I's shall never be sold. Nor my KLH Model 105's. Both of these have such wonderful cabinets and style (sound too), that I don't think I could find better replacements. The Carver's are a hard call, however given an agreeable price -- I may be persuaded.
An old pair of Johnzers, because no one will buy them. Hell No one will take them. I left them at the land fill once and the garbage truck brought them back to me.
The Realistic MC-1000 speakers my dad bought in high school, along with the matching receiver. Mediocre speakers, nice cabs, but sentimental value! Anything else is fair game, regardless of sound quality. Yes, I'm a sap.
My old Johnzers and my cr-620. My first real stereo and I still have it. Every thing else is fair game.
I haven't had enough to narrow it down to just one pair, but I can't wait for the next best thing I can get from some yard sale or thrift store or craigslist.
My old backloaded horns with the discontinued Fostex FE-108 Sigma drivers. Far from perfect, but deliver the goods when it comes to conveying music and voice. Sadly, they're doing lowly AV duties these days.
Limiting my answer to one pair as I think these type of questions are more interesting when forced to pick "THE ONE". I'd pick my Infinity Quantum 4's on which I'm now listening to Bob Marley Most of his recordings are quite good, allowing the Watkins woofer to drop down and capture those death-defying 2 ohm bass notes.
