Beefy cast woofer
decent mid
nice soft dome tweeter..

Need foam but for $10 I couldn't argue!

Sound decent, I plan on refoaming soon!

Also a JVC shelf system with dead CD player for $20

pulled all the extra CD's out it works fine!!!

(When all else fails, cram some more CD's through the slots)

Yard sales are really hit and miss, but they can be a lot of fun. Often my wife and I end up talking to a lot of folks and reallyaget to know our community.

At one sale I bought almost 100 Louis L'Amour novels for under $50. They've been a treat. And vinyl? Sometimes it is incredible.

Pretty much the case here too. Even the main Seattle goodwill store. I may havea couple hundred different components. Every one of them is garbage. Every single one.

Frankly, as the economy continues to slide, people will be less likely to give stuff away and more likely to sell at garage sales and craigslist, often for less than Goodwill would have.

Times are changin'.

I picked up a pair of AR-4xs for $15.99 last week at Goodwill.

A week or two prior to that at the same store, I passed up a Dual 1019 turntable for $29.99 with the original documentation and a Sansui 5000X receiver for $39.99 with the documentation and service manual. There had also been a decent looking pair of Sansui speakers at the time for $9.99 each. I still feel a little guilty about passing up the receiver, but I don't really need it.

Cured???

Some here may hate or kill me for this, but two evenings ago I walked away from a Marantz Esotec PM-6 amp in great condition, including the front door panel thing with intact lettering on it. The asking price was $200, and I had the cash in my pocket and the money in the budget.

I'm also resisting (for a few days already) a cheap pair of Marantz Imperial 6 speakers. Someone stained the wood veneer black, and they are a little dusty, but otherwise fine, with good drivers.

I think I'm finally on the path to being truly, truly "cured"...

REHAB is for quitter's, going back to the well, to test your resistance will eventually prove that your will to resist is easily overcome by an "irresistible" bargain. Once home with this purchase you'll find yourself "hiding" it from others, because of your shame. Addiction isn't a monkey on your back, it's a freakin' GORILLA, and sometime in the not too distant future your gorilla is going to make up for your puny resistance. You'll need help bringing it all home..

EPI Model 100's

There's nothing but junk at my thrifts.

I agree, lots of junk out there at the moment in the thrift stores (at least in the Victoria area). But if you keep checking you find a few not too bad deals.

For example, today I picked up a pair of EPI Model 100's + pair of stands. Woofers need refoam (of course) but the enclosures are 99% mint and the grils and emblems are all there. Hopefully the tweeters are OK. The stands are 22-inch tall MDF with spikes and are hollow, so I figure I can weight them.

These are the later version model 100's - 1981/82, according to humanspeakers.com.

$30 (CAN) for speakers and stands. Seemed reasonable to me - what do others think?

Picked up a pair of JBL Decade 36 / Model L36's, $12.99 a piece. One is in decent shape, the other needs the woofer refoamed. Grill cloth is brown, I've read that they came in blue and orange too. Pics >
