Springtime Hudson Valley NY/NJ get together - Saturday April 12, 2014

Went to Shanghai Jazz in The General tonight with wife. Put wheelchair in trunk. takes up less than one side, and there's still a lot of space to nestle stuff in the inverted chair frame.

Bring it on! We have much space left! If you're thinking of speakers, then we should start getting a list and dimensions of everyones stuff, but I expect we're good to go, even
with 4 passengers and 20 receivers.

Do I read this right, you guys are bringing 20 receivers? Hehe now it's a party!

This is stacking up to be a fun meet. I am not sure what time I will get there but plan to make the run down there Saturday.

I had to move some of the posts to the thread in BarterTown because they were involved in the buy/sell of equipment.

It can be confusing when swapping between this thread and the associated BT thread but please be careful to ensure any buying/selling goes in BT.

About 12 hours away...

I am going to be taking a few items over tomorrow but have lots of room in my car. Does anyone need me to bring a scope? I'm going to have a dummy load there and a variac. I'm sure I can come up with something for signal.

Today's forcast....partly sunny, 71 degrees, and plenty of good people and fun :thmbsp:

Mike, you're an awesome host, and thank you very much for that. It was a blast saying hi to old friends, and meeting new friends.

I'll end with.....I want to party with the guys from Jersey!!

I was floored when they carried me up the stairs......

......and blown away when Sparky tried to set the place on fire,.......

But after a while I calmed down and found myself having fun!

Thanks to all for a great day.
Signed, Phil

EDIT: one suggestion-how about if you do it again, that everybody with an active music system take turns of 15 minutes each so there is something audibly coherent going on instead of acoustic mayhem!! With ~6 systems, the rotation would take 1:30 to complete, or a different amount of time might be used-even five minutes if there was a sound policeman to manage it!
The high level of background noise sucked and the live acoustics made it even more obnoxious.

It was great meeting everyone. Mike's an awesome host - thanks for pulling it together!
Nothing like a little fire in the firehouse to add some excitement!

See y'all again at Kutztown in a few weeks.

Thanks Mike for organizing such a great event! It was great meeting new folks, making connections, and putting out some fires. I did notice the din dampened down after the fiasco!

shockingly, Sparky

A big thank you too all who attended and I hope you all had a great time. We had a great turnout for a first time event and it seemed the consensus of another in the future was very positive. Raised some money for the fire company which I am sure they will be thrilled to have us back.

Can't wait until later today to listen to some baseball on my new tube Zenith table top radio!

Had a good time, thanks for hosting.

Special thanks to Phil, Andy and Rich for doing a good chunk of the driving.

Big jeers to TomTom for not knowing where the hell he's going. It tried to send me to Pennsylvania to get home from Andy's place. There is no good reason to leave NJ, go to PA, then cross back to NJ when you can just get on a road that goes south.

Thanks to Mike for the organizing and to all for attending and bringing in a variety of foodstuffs and libations . . . had a GREAT time, saw a lot of cool gear and met many fine and funky folks . . . including Phil!! ;^) . . . we gotta do this again, fo sho! . . . anyhoo, here be some pix I took

here you will see 'supercool', 'HVHiFi', 'NJCanuck', 'Zackk' . . . the rest of the guys I kinna remember

'Retroman98' and 'RetrofriendRick' (I made that up, Rick is indeed a friend of Juan's but has yet to develop the full affliction of audio addiction and AK membership) setting up Juan's restored by HVHiFi (Mike) Fisher 500C and Dual TT
picture.php

those KLH's sounded fantoobulous and sold within minutes of their arrival to the fella you see kneeling behind them in homage . . . what? . . . oh, actually he was just hooking up the speaker wires I've been told :D
picture.php

'NJCanuck's (Rich) flea-watt tube amp with flea-sized Koss M-something or others . . . if'n you WAS a flea, you coulda got nice and close to hear 'em, otherwise, no
picture.php

another 500C setup pic . . . after using a variety of coins, and even a kitchen utensil, we wisely obtained a screwdriver from 'NJCanuck' (Rich) to tighten the speaker and TT ground wires to the Fisher . . .
picture.php

a shared table of 'Zackk' (Zack) and another whose monikers escape me . . . I do believe the amp was sold, tho I will not testify to that !
picture.php

here is 'Chinacave's setup . . . nice Heathkits mono tube amps driving the open-baffled coaxials . . . sounded great but the room was HARD, nary a soft surface to be found, discounting beer-guts of course . . . that young fella is 'Zackk' (Zack)

'Supercool' is in fact super-duper cool! . . . brought along some good rekkids and carts and binding posts and other audiophilia . . . and those way-cool retro GE speaks that he refurbed to 11! . . . they sounded terrific and are just the thing you need for your 'Space 1999" themed dream-house!!. . . .
picture.php

how's about a glamour shot of one of the GEs
picture.php

now, this 'lil fella, the portable TT, belonging to one 'vinyl fiend' (Sparky), as innocent and cute as he may look, provided the pyrotechnic entertainment of the day! . . . seems he got a little hot and bothered and in Spielberg style, FRIED his power cord from top to bottom in a spectacular frenzy of flame, sparks, smoke and screams . . . no injuries reported and no structural damage noted . . . I will say however, that them old cords go FAST when they do, so if you got some, mebbe you should swap 'em out!
picture.php

I am uncertain who brought these along, and thanks to you whoever you is, but ain't they too cool for shoes! . . . didn't have one (wanted to but, but Type II sez no!)
