SS Amps That Will Run 2 Ohms

Graingers, question.

Grainger, Yes the question was put out there for a specific need. To run pair of Infinity

RS 2.5,. I want 2 mono block,s so I can verticaly biamp these things. Or somthing like a

BA-5000 but this one is out of my price range after incl cost of upgrade.

jinfet I run Martin Logans with a Celestion DL6II center that has got to be dipping into the 1ohm range with a baby SAE A202 rated 150WPC into 4ohms, I can throw anything at it, I just had a major session with the Zebra cables from the Marantz to the SAE, I had the 200WPC lights blinking not one complaint from the Amp or the Speakers, If you have Stat's you know how current hungery they are!

Have you seen the Power Transformer for the SAE? It's a Magnet like a particle acsellerator (sic) that they have in NM

thank You Sir, you are right the 2270 does not like anything under 4ohms, Sid was a Master with the Pre-amp, God how did he hear that s#%t!!?? I've been in awe since I got mine, Pre outed to the SAE A202 AMP :banana: :music: I've got sooo many goosebumps ????

IIRC, and I sold them, the early, non-Superscope 2270s were fine into a low impedance speakers. We sold them with Infinity 2000As, which were a hard impedance to drive. The newer models of this receiver would clip wildly into the 2000As.

Add Levinson, and Moscode into the mix. Some of the newer "digital" amps will drive an almost dead short (H2O's as an example/they work well with Apogee Scintilla's in 1 ohm mode).

I find that odd. I am not disagreeing, but, James Bongiorno liked speakers with hard to drive loads. I have owned some of his designs and they were great for electrostatics. (A really hard load to drive)

This beauty can drive just about anything without breaking a sweat and is an exceptionally musical amp. If you can get one buy it!!
SimAudio 4150SE and P 4001 preamp is available for $1000 in our local area. I’m also planning to get an LRS as well. I’m wondering if these gears match musically and since both are very transparent, won’t it be too bright or harsh at the top end?

Well, for 20msec, anyway, for a fixed frequency of 1kHZ and unspecified distortion. At least they did get reasonably specific about test conditions. I'm even prepared to believe them.

Set you pre to limit input at maximum volume, to be safe. It will handle 2 ohm, but don't push it..;)
 
Mcintosh has direct coupled amps, amps with autoformers and even tube amps that will go down below 2 ohms. My MC207's are rated down to 4 ohms but I have been driving 2 ohm loads since 2008. Even their latest 3500 tube amp will drive 2 ohms and lower. Crown amps mentioned were most efficent at 2.5 ohms, but when you climbed up above 8 KHZ the distortion went up like a streak of lightning.

Accuphase amps reach below 2 ohms, also along with Bryston. Then there are the Class D Crown amps that will reach down to 2 ohms along with QSC and other famous commercial amps.
 
A couple Crown pro amps I have will do 1,400 watts when bridged into 2 ohms.
I dought I'll ever try thst though.

To deliver 2000 watts, it's going to consume more than double that. Per channel.
8000 watts requires at least 220 volts (you're never going to get more than 1500 watts on 110v without blowing circuit breakers).
 
120V, but they suggest a 20A service.
20A isn't even close to what you need.
watts = volts x amperage.
1000 watts of class A into a single channel is going to draw over 2000 watts.
2000/110 is really close to 20 amps; you'd need each channel on at least its own 20 amp circuit, and you'll probably be tripping the breakers all the time.
I'd say no less than two 30A breakers, plus a 3rd breaker to run everything else.
