No real reason you can't move the inputs, but extending the wiring increases chances of noise pickup. If you route it to keep away from the power supply as much as possible there isn't any reason it won't work. I'd go with at least a twisted pair and insulate the input jacks from chassis. Make the ground for the jack in the stock location. Small shielded wiring would also work fine here.
There are those who think the world will end if you move the inputs, or the power switch.
I don't think it will.
My suggestion though would be if you're going to shell out the bucks for an ST-70 kit, why not go $300 more for double the wattage?
You're probably gonna wish you had once you're done.
I realize i could just mod the kit,or original unit, but i was thinking maybe there's a kit with the inputs already placed behind the transformers?? I miss my old dynaco, but that was the one thing that annoyed me....having the rca's routing to the front of the unit

Even though Bob doesn't suggest moving things around, I think his main thinking is that he's just trying to stay true to the original design.
There are a number of people who have designed their own chassis and moved stuff all over the place.

I use 90 degree adapters and route fancy cables over the top for that cool high tech look. Of course I just took a pair of phono cables with gold ends and put Tech-flex on them. I’m cheap that way.
I have done several console amp conversions, and always route the inputs to the back of the chassis. Used shielded cable with the shield grounded at the RCA jacks only, and have never had any kind of noise problem

I Built one of Bob's ST-70's. And while it sounds fine, I know kind of wish I had shelled out for double the output and gone with the ST120 or a pair of MKlll monoblocks. Most of my speakers are rated 60 watts and up. So for the times i do crank it up the amp runs out of steam before the speakers do.
