st louis record stores?

1)Record Exchange, Hampton and Eichelberger, South City. 2) Vintage Vinyl, Delmar Loop, Delmar Avenue. 3) CD Reunion, 270 and Lindbergh, Hazelwood.

That's the list...

If you are a jazz-listener, as Watt suggests, then by all means make time to get to Euclid Records in the neighboring town of Webster Groves. You won't regret it.

Though Vintage and the Record Exchange have more character (and more classic rock), Euclid is the place to go when you have some money to burn. They have more new vinyl and (aside from the astounding complete jazz selection) good stacks of used rock, blues, etc.

You can't really lose with any of these records stores, though.

Also, over in St. Charles there is a new shop that has a bunch of nice vinyl. The owner, Robert is a nice guy and has been dealing in vinyl for a long time. He has premium stuff and is extremely knowledgeable. He has more than just vinyl in his shop.

I've been dealing with Record Exchange, Vintage Vinyl and Euclid for years. They're all great operations. I kinda miss having places like that close at hand - we only have one decent record shop down here, and it tends to be rather expensive.

Also, if you're looking for "New Vinyl", mostly Indie type stuff, Euclid is the place to go.
They're all new prices, but they have a lot and will have all the New Releases.

I have found though that Euclid's "Used" selection is normally priced really really high.
For instance something like Grateful Dead's "Blues For Allah" will be like $25 there, when you can get it online for like $5-7

But I will go there once a week usually and pick up a few new things, which are priced the same as everywhere.

Never heard of "Reunion Revolution" does it have a good LP selection? Kind of looks more like an antique/knick-knack store that also has an LP section.

I guess the weekend is over, but still...

I have never been to Reunion Revolution to tell you about their selection of vinyl, they apparently opened in September. I have known the owner for about 10 years and have been to his house and he has an unbelievable amount of records in excellent condition. I am not sure how many he has taken to his new store, but I feel it would be a look.

For 15 years he dealt in nothing but vinyl and war games and apparently has branched out a little from the looks of the pics of the store.

Robert is a nice guy with incredible knowledge about records. I recommend a visit to see what he is offering.

Euclid Records. A great selection of jazz vinyl, especially.

Euclid is in Webster Groves, off Big Bend near Webster University. Steve Pick and Rob Wagener are super-brainy about vinyl and Steve Scariano is a pop star from the past (hehe)...He's also a super-brain. Joe Schwab is the owner. These are the good guys.

Hawk's Nest Plaza off I-70 and Zumbehl Road in St. Charles also has a store that's owned by Dan of CD Reunion, I think it's called Music Reunion. They have a good selection of CD's, some LP's, and some used VHS and DVD's. Cliff is the owner.

Great information and quite timely. I'll be driving down to St. Louis in a couple days, to visit family.

I'm less interested in Classic Rock (got all I ever want or need) and will be looking for:

-Classical, in particular 20th century composers, Avant Garde, etc...

-Punk

-Metal

-78s

Which of the four shops mentioned would be better with those genres in mind? Any of them carry 78s? Thanks!

Isn't there a store called Webster Records? IIRC they specialize in classical, if they're still open.

Just looked at Mapquest.

Euclid Records is 6/10 of a mile from BIL's house. Webster Records 1 mile away. I could easily walk to both.

Now I'm getting excited. It's gonna be a fun visit to St. Louis.

This won't help cactuscowboy much, but maybe some of you other folks might want to check out Creve Couer Antique Mall. Mostly rock and other popular stuff at $2.00 an album. It's at Olive and Fee Fee.
The St. Charles Antique Mall also has a booth full of records for $3.00 an album. They are off of the Page extension at Jungermann Rd. I think.
I have had good luck with both of these as far as quality. I mean they're not clean enough to play but they at least seem to not put visually defective stuff out there.
