Hey guys, I need to get a cartridge for my sl-1200 m3d and I'm looking at either the Stanton (KAB USA model) 500E MKII or the AT92E. I mostly listen to rock, folk, electronic, and hip hop. Suggestions?

awesome, that stanton is lookin pretty good, so the audio technica isn't even comparable?

Both cartridges are a good value for the money. I use the Stanton 500 on my Garrard table (mainly for 78 rpm discs) and the Audio Technica AT92E on a Technics p-mount turntable.
Although the Stanton 500E cartridge is no longer in production, KAB offers a Stanton 400 with the Stanton D71E stylus, which is the same as the old Stanton 500E cartridge.
Between the two, the Stanton has a slightly warmer sound. It uses a .4 x .7 mil elliptical stylus and the frequency range is 10 Hz to 22 kHz. The Audio Technica AT92E uses a .3 x .7 mil elliptical with a frequency range of 15 Hz to 27 kHz. Both track very well and produce a good sound. Of course, which sounds better would be determined by your ears.
Since the AT92E is a p-mount design, it would require the use of the universal mount to be used on your Technics 1200 turntable. On the other hand, the Stanton cartridge (which is a standard mount) is about a gram lighter and is not as tall as most cartridges, so it may be of benefit to use a spacer to add a little weight and height. The spacers are available at KABUSA.com under Technics accessories.
