Stanton headshell question

Those extra weights are used for scratching needles that require heavy tracking to prevent skipping. Although in rare cases can those weights prove useful for light cartridges and used only for playback.

They are also useful for low compliance cartridges that need more arm mass. You likely do not need it.

I use the 2g circular weight to keep my tone arm balanced between the numerous cartridges I use. Since most of my carts require 1.5-3.0g I keep the tone arm at 0.5-0.6g and then either use the 2g weight for the Stanton 520 Elliptical or AT-3651 Elliptical. IF I didnt use the weight the needle wouldnt touch the record or would float around hunting for the groove. For the Shure M35X and SC35C I use a dime I glued to the headshell, since a dime is 2.25g and cheaper than ONE of those headshell weights. Even the flat weights that go under the headshell on top of the cart(2-3g) are more costly than glueing a penny to the headshell(@ a weight of 2.5g).

You would of been better off getting a Technics headshell and at that the correct headshell for that turntable. Download the SL-23 owners manual from Vinyl Engine and it will show the correct headshell and weight. The Stanton headshell is for the Stanton scratch/DJ turntables, try to return it for a refund. With a Technics table your better off dealing with KAB, if needed you can call and Kevin will who advise you of a suitable replacement. Original Technics headshells can also be found on Ebay, make sure you get the correct weight headshell, avoid generic/aftermarket headshells, they are cheap for a reason, poor quality, made in China.
