Stephens tru-sonic ... heard ?

Picked this up this over the weekend , anyone have any luck with this old iron ? looks very well built and sounds darn good with my pretty ghetto tube amp, . thanks:scratch2:

I used to have a pair of those and wish I had them today. They are amazing speakers. I have a 15" Trusonic FR speaker that I picked up to recapture the old glory, but it is not the same as the beautiful Co-axial you have. Get another, it will run you $500-$700 on ebay. I have a Corgi too!

There are Stephens Tru-sonic collectors out there that pay decent money for these types of drivers if they are in top shape, although not in the same price league of the coaxial Altecs. (Although the previous post would indicate otherwise. Yikes!)

The most popular Stevens collectible speaker drivers are the 8" full range FR80 units as mentioned in one of the previous posts above. They seem to be particularly popular with full range driver fans in Scandinavia.

Looks like it may be part Basset if the ears lay flat when he's upright.

Yours is the last version of it, there were (3) variants.

Field coil, square alnico, & curved alnico magnets.

Not much to do with it except use it but do check the horn for looseness.

You can tighten it up via the screws you can see down inside from the front.

Back in the mid-90s I ran Stephens 12" Trusonic speakers inside of a homebuilt Jensen 'Ultraflex' cabinet. Easy to drive with a SE 2A3 amplifier, they were my main rig speakers for a few years until the then girlfriend told me they _were not_ coming to the new house. I gave in and sold them to a friend. They ended up being PA speakers down in Chicago for some theater group - heh.

Anyways - I remember them being very vintage sounding with a natural midrange. I never upgraded the crossover components or anything like that. I wish I had them back!
